i adopted my babies on Friday the 13th and the shelter waived the fee for both of them because i was willing to keep them together.

I never choose my cat by their color (still hoping for a tortoiseshell at some point in life, tho, NGL). It is always incidental. Whichever one reaches out and somehow steals my heart in the shelter is the one coming home with me.
And a month ago we added a kitten to our home to be a buddy for our cat (going great, btw). She was a little black kitten! And she looks like a little gremlin. She is so dark it is hard to get good pictures of her! She is hard to see when she sneaks around the house!
My first cat is more my husband’s buddy than mine – they have bonded in a special way and I always felt a little left out. But this kitten? She is crazy sweet! She wakes me up by rubbing against me and purring. She loves me. She lets me touch her smol beans! She feels really like “my” cat.
So go figure a witch like me would attract a little black cat familiar. I love her.

My current cat isn’t black, but it wasn’t a conscious decision on my part.
When my previous cat crossed the rainbow bridge, I sought out a local adoption event. When I arrived, they had two large cages filled with black kittens. So many adorable black kittens.
I’d hold one, then another, then another, … trying to see if I could make any sort of connection. Nah, they just wanted to explore.
I’m standing there, numbly staring at one of the cages, and then “Ghost” popped into my head.
I stop. I look closer. “Alright, which of you just told me your name?”
And this grey tuxedo tabby, that I did not see before in the mass of black kittens, stretching out from a sleep, adjusts his stretch so that it angles towards me, then sits up and looks right at me.
Sorry black kitties, but the grey one chose me.

Apparently another reason black cats are adopted less is because they don’t photograph well for posting online. Less superstitious but just as dumb.

That is actually not true anymore. Black animals are adopted at the same rates at this point. The issue is the perception; there are way more black animals than any other color. From the outside, it looks like there are no black animals being adopted because we never make a dent compared to other colors. Adopt whatever pet you want, regardless of color. And support your local shelters if possible, even if it’s just donating old towels and blankets.

I have been told that so many people have heard about this that black cats now get adopted the fastest! If anyone knows whether this is accurate I’d love to know!

I have a black cat spawn point near my home, I already have 2, and 2 more black street cats

I don’t own any cats, but the black cats are actually my favorite ones. I mean who doesn’t enjoy looking at a little black fluff ball as they sleep. They’re so freaking cute. One day I’ll own one of those little guys though.
