1- I’d back up a bit and start with looking at how King of Cups might represent you and your role in the situation, rather than your boyfriend. It might speak to your qualities as a friend, or it might represent your longing for a certain kind of friendship. King of Cups would be a great friend (“caring” as your notes on the side suggest), but he can also feel a bit distant (like all the kings). King of Cups could also be a nice metaphor for your description of how this situation feels for a lot of us – without access to lots of in person community, we’ve all been sort of forced to be our own emotional support systems. There’s great aspects to this, but it can also just feel like *not enough*. Building or expanding close friendships may require letting go of some of that self reliance, and learning to reach out more.
2 – Another interpretation of a reversal here might be more about the present than the future. Sometimes the first step to resolving a difficult emotional situation is to really feel it. Loneliness hurts (sometimes even physically). 3 of Swords could speak to this hurt, and the reversal could indicate that you may have some (natural, understandable) reluctance to really feel that hurt right now. Taking some time to fully feel and process that emotional pain might be something you need to spend a little bit of time with right now. It may even be what enables you to move into the celebration called for in the 9 of cups.
3 – I agree with your interpretation above, but I’d add that embodying the 9 of cups might be your path out of this period. As you look around at your life right now, with COVID restrictions still in place, how can you celebrate and feel joy? Can you find little ways to celebrate, and invite others into those celebrations (even remotely)? Can you reach out to people you may have lost touch with (or acquaintances that may be potential future friends) to share some joy?
