3 of cups denotes a love triangle more than 3 of swords. 3 of swords denotes heartbreak plain and simple, and it’s usually one on one heartbreak.

I read once (and stuck with the interpretation) that it’s an emotional upset that feels like a really big deal in the moment, but passes fairly quickly/is not a big deal at all really once you’re through it.

3 of swords usually implies heartbreak or past heartbreak in my readings. Not always bc of a third party, sometimes it’s just a relationship ended unexpectedly and someone is still hurting. Possibly *thinking* they were being cheated on. It’s such a head/heart card to me. Now if it comes out with the devil and/or a couple men/women courts… Ehhh… Yeah maybe a third party situation. 3cups, I always get either happiness, friendship, celebration, happiness, imbibing, over imbibing, partying, spending too much time with friends.

    Morgan-Greer Tarot

“Derek: How do you make a decision that’s fair?

Zøg: You can’t. Someone always feels like it’s not fair to them. And the fairest decisions? Those are the ones where everybody feels screwed.”

    ????????????

This quote jumped out at me when I came across the 3 of Swords while browsing a new deck. I’ve done MANY readings where 3/S does imply a love triangle situation, but that’s not always the case. Let’s break it down:

3: Perfect balance, Divine Trinity, rule-of-3. Developing a balanced, productive, self-regulating system.

Swords/Air: Will, The Force, logic, reason, intelligence, mental-think. Welding your power to the best outcome, removing obstacles and adversaries. Ultimate sword power is calm and reason.

3/S is a meeting of peers where hearts are opened as confessions are made under the pressure of necessity or inevitability. If we want to find balance between ourself and our peers, we must communicate and be honest about how we feel. Emo bullshit often gets in the way of logic and reasoning. In order to effectively build something with our peers, we must unload our emotional baggage and confess and confront our true feelings if we want to move forward. If some people are feeling icky, and some people are feeling angry, and some people are just feeling hurt, nobody’s going to feel comfortable around eachother or when working together. 3/S urges us to address the emotional hangups interrupting our will.

Wielding your will effectively can only be done once you know yourself and what you want. Oftentimes people’s emotions takes over and it’s hard to figure out what you REALLY want in relation to how you feel. Sometimes we think we desire things because we hope that they will make us happy, but our desires are much deeper than that. When we engage with our emotions and learn to understand them, emotional outbursts and sentimentality stop getting in the way of reason and logic.

Be it in a war scenario or one of love, once we bare our hearts and confront our inner turmoil together we can move forward with logic and reason to work on compromise and collaboration to satisfy all parties. The real work can only begin once the truth is out and a foundation of trust and honesty are laid down.

It hurts to show your heart sometimes, but emotions must be dealt with for reason to come forward.

    Bless y’all!

I’ve never though of the 3/cups as a love triangle, more like the Fates/Norns. I see as a card shoowing potentials in the illumination of desire. Even when we can only see the surface of the water we might still feel the pull. 3/c feels more like an opportunity to choose an emotionally fulfilling path, once we look over our shoulder and recognize our past patterns and cycles, that it.

    I agree… it’s honesty, heart-to-heart
