    hi im new to witchcraft and all but ive been super interested in it for ages. it fits in with my beliefs well (im not religious i just have weird beliefs i guess?) and it just really peeks my interest.

    id really like to try a manifesting spell to help me be more motivated to be healthy and loose weight (im a little chubby and wanna turn things around so i can be happy and healthy) or to help me be more motivated to loose weight and take care of myself.

    i do heavily believe in science and stuff but i also believe that there can be a balance between science and religions/ practices/ believes

    if anyone can help that’d be great 🙂

    Here’s my copy&paste for new witches;

    Start with the FAQ and megathreads of this subreddit. Use the search bar to find lots of information on certain topic and I have a post titled “doing independent research” over at r/bookofshadows that includes many great external links for sourcing information.

    As to where to start, begin with the history of witchcraft and read into its modern day practice to understand where we’ve come to get to where we are today.

    From there look into different magickal practices. Mindfulness, meditation, shadow work, grounding and centering are all some foundational practices people at all stages in their craft use. Cleansings, protections and manifestation are some good starting practices once you get comfortable. All of these things require little to no tools.

    Read up on different types of magick such as the use of candles, planets, moon phases, sigils, crystals, herbs, corrospondances, etcetera. Get a base knowledge of the common ones and as you read you will find what pulls your interest. Follow that pull and you will find what calls to you.

    Begin setting up a book of shadows during your research. In this put in the information that interests you and applies to your craft. I suggest making your first BOS a “rough draft” book. Once you are comfortable in your craft and have a better understanding of what you will be utilizing in your practice then you can copy over all pertinent information into a more formal book of shadows.

    I also highly suggest putting your focus, both magickal and mundane, into discipline over motivation. Motivation is the pinterest boards of workouts that look fun, food that is both healthy and within the realm of your palette and inspirational quotes and photos. Discipline is what gets you off your butt even on the days you’re not really feeling it.

    One of the best recommendations I have heard for motivation is to go and put on your gym clothes before you decide to skip a workout. It’s a lot easier to say “well I’m already this far, might as well see it through” once you have that change of clothes to help trigger a change of mindset. If you’re really feeling unmotivated after that you can still do something light and for 5-10 minutes if you’re not feeling like doing your usual routine to keep the habit up without exhausting yourself.

    I’d advise you to do a loooot of research and focus more on techniques like grounding and centering before you move on to spellcasting. Try out little things first like casting a glamour on yourself to make you feel more confident. If you are healthy already I would advise to focus on self love and using your craft for that instead of weight loss, because as long as you’re healthy it doesn’t matter what size you are.

    Hope this helps!
