My grandma bought this house 50 years ago and when she died, she left it to my uncle. When he died, he did not have a will and now his siblings (my dad included) are money-hungry greedy jerks and they are selling the family home so they can get their cut. I was born and raised in this house and so was my 22-year-old son and I am having a really, really hard time with this. I’m not speaking to my dad over it and I am not sure I ever will. I hate the way my uncle’s estate has been handled.

My question is, are they ok with this house being sold? How do they feel about the greedy family members? How can I gain some peace and let this house go? Its where all our best memories together as a family were held.

I am hearing it’s fine, dear, it’s just a house. What is most important are the memories that live in your mind and your heart. The house is just a place – you can create a new home (with those old memories and loving feeling) anywhere.
I feel like she is a little irritated but she thinks everyone is doing what they think is best and she can’t fault them for that. She asks you to not be short sighted and getting caught in the conflict. She is saying to let those feelings go with your father. Don’t be so hard on him – she is not mad about the sale. She hopes it will go to a loving family with young kids and breathe new life.

Generally speaking, people on the other side don’t much care about their former possessions. They care a lot more about their surviving loved ones — and also how they’re getting along.
Are you going to be out of a home? I really hope not.
