Forums Forums Tarot Are you supposed to turn all your cards the same direction again when you are done with a reading?

I usually leave them mixed up and then do some turns along with shuffling for a new reading. But my husband used to play Magic the Gathering and he was really surprised that I didn’t put them all back the same direction each time. Obviously MTG is different than tarot lol but it made me wonder if there is a “correct” way that you’re supposed to store your cards between readings?

    Thanks!

I think it’s the way you think it’s fine. I personally just shuffle them again for a couple of minutes to get rid of the energy of the people I just read for. But sometimes when the energy is too heavy or negative I clean them up with copal and put them in order to make sure it’s gone.

I’m the opposite, actually. I’m always flipping my cards around and on new moons I like to spread them out and shuffle them like a 5 year old and recollect them however they decide to orient themselves.

There’s no correct way. Do what makes sense to you.

I don’t think there is a right or wrong way. I always put mine back in order and facing the correct way. I feel like it balances everything again and also shows respect for my cards. I don’t like going to bed all sloppy and I want the same for my cards.

Everyone is going to have a different way of conducting their readings before during and after. As we practice we find a rhythm which becomes like a ritual. Some are involved and some are very relaxed. If what you’re doing before, during, and after your readings feels natural to you then there is no necessity to change it! I personally find that a single shuffle after a reading is all I need to sort of “reset” my deck and some may not even feel the need to do that much. Especially since I read reversed cards, I don’t ever feel the need to reorient them. Just do what feels right! If a day comes and you realize you want to change your rhythm – add something or use a new method etc – then follow that intuition! But don’t feel like you need to change what you do because of other people’s practices!

The only “correct way” is what feels right to you. I leave my cards mixed up when I’m done with a reading. The only time I don’t is when I’m using a deck that doesn’t seem to support reversals (and even that is just my own “sense” of the deck).

Some people read different meanings for upside down cards. Personally I prefer mine all right side up. I set them up this way before shuffling and I shuffle in a manner that does not make them go upside down.

I always put mine back in order but that’s more just my own ritual and general sense of order than any spiritual need
