Hi how do you use the astrology correspondences on a reading?

Do you asociate a card with a planet or sign other than the preset?

Do you think it does have good use in tarot or is irrelevant/apart from it?

I loosely base my astrology/tarot associations off the golden dawn associations.

I don’t usually use then in reading, but will point them out to a client if they are interested in astrology. I do like to make tarot art based off the current zodiac sign and decan.

For instance the new moon was in libra first decan which I associate with the 2 of swords, so I made new moon art referencing the two of swords. And the full moon in October is in Aries second decan which I associate with the 3 of wands. So I’ve made full moon art with the three of wands in mind.

Sometimes I will find my sign card, the Star, and I’ll read the 2 cards on each side of it when I’m feeling spiritually stuck.

I think it can be helpful to use the correspondence for planets and signs if the cards aren’t making sense in a reading.

I’m a vedic astrologer … so this post might be a bit detailed …

I use astrology differently with Pips, Courts, and Majors.

For the pips I use Lon Milo DuQuette’s calendar method *ONLY* if I’m looking for a timing card. Otherwise I use Vedic astrology correspondences based on the element of the suit and the elements of planets.

For example Wands as fire element relates to Sun and Mars as fire planets.

For the Courts I use a common method. Pentacles are earth signs, cups are water signs, and so on. I also found that using Vedic planetary archetypes deepened by understanding of the Courts. It made them consistent and de-mystified them (Courts were the hardest for me)

For the Majors I loosely follow Waite’s method. I learnt it so many years ago that it’s baked-in to my understanding of the Trumps.

But I’ve changed a few things.

I read the Moon as the Moon and Priestess as Pisces. I sometimes read the Emperor as planet Mars (rather than sign Aries). I assign cards for Rahu and Ketu (the nodes).

I often do hybrid readings. I read the client’s chart *and* their cards. I look for places where the cards highlight a theme in the chart and vice versa.

I often use Tarot’s astrology for TIMING rather than for psychology. The exception is the Courts, which of course are all about psychology.

    Thanks for a great question!

I learned the astro-tarot crossover from mary k greers tarot for yourself

    queens are cardinals,

    kings fixed,

    knights are mutable.

wands fire signs, cups water, swords air, pents earth. so capricorn is queen pents, scorpio is king cups etc

there’s cards for houses, planets, and even some placements as well, but I’m still just working with the court cards as signs for now!

the biggest take away I got when I first came across this book is you lay out your natal chart with cards. the Emperor is 1st house. this really opened my eyes to what the first house is/could be. I’m a scorpio rising so my general attitude is ‘i dont care what people think / know/ assume about me” and could be very flippant and dismissive about myself kind of just around anyone. the emperor showed me that the first house is the mouthpiece and the doorway to the kingdom- so even its the people that make a kingdom, and even if the people aint shit, the emperor or king **can not** talk shit about it, or you invite all sorts across your borders that its harder to banish them than it wouldve been to keep em out in the first place. I thought that was really powerful and it helped my bring my astrology journey even further along.

Here’s one of my essays on the subject. I take correspondences into consideration as I need them but I seldom mention them to my clients. Tarot works very well without them but they do add more layers of meaning when it’s of use to the interpretation.
