xxlylajunexxMemberWhat should I do to make my alter more functional? Right now it’s a pretty mishmash of things I’ve collected and occasionally use.

GuestSeptember 18, 2023 at 1:07 pmSometimes, I just clear everything off of mine, wipe it off so its nice and clean, and put everything away somewhere. Then I start from scratch with what I need and what is meaningful to me at the time. There are certain things that get pulled out and used consistently, and others that are kept for when a certain inspiration strikes. And sometimes, things simply end up in the trash or the donation bag because they have served their purpose.

GuestSeptember 18, 2023 at 1:07 pmI like the “cluttered work table” and organic vibe some altars have. I think this looks lovely and well loved. Great atmosphere and I appreciate the use of animal bones. However, if you want ideas on other arrangements, I usually go for a “centerpiece” and then build up each side with a loose sense of symmetry (the objects placed have roughly the same height and take up as much space. Also, using height, you could put objects atop boxes, or small shelves for a more dramatic look. For example, I have a large ram’s skull as a centerpiece, and use his horns to tuck things into. I also have wooden boxes with drawers which I keep trinkets and incense in, which act as organizational stands for other items.

I would check out hobby lobby for small desks with drawers and shelves
