Hey all! I was wondering if anyone had some good suggestions for books on true Scottish magical practices and spells. Especially those pertaining to hedge witch (dealing with the spiritual plane) practices and such. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

You might like to check out [*The Visions of Isobel Gowdie: Magic, Witchcraft and Dark Shamanism in Seventeenth-Century Scotland*](https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/1734638) by Emma Wilby. It’s an academic text, but I strongly recommend it.

I also recommend the five volume series [*The Silver Bough*](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18933431-the-silver-bough-volume-1) by F. Marian McNeill for a look at Scottish folk beliefs and practices.

I agree with the above commenter – in general, if you’re looking for real historical practices, absolutely look to anthropological and historical texts. It’s your best bet, and will usually have bibliographies and sources to follow up on.

Yes to Emma Wilby!! Also, [Witchcraft & Second Sight,](https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/58894) a free resource in public domain. I’ve also been wanting to check out Scottish Charms and Amulets, also in public domain.

Scottish Herbs and Fairy Lore by Ellen Hopman is a great book looking at historic folk practices in Scotland
