When placing a crossed card in a spread, does anyone pay attention to which end was up as you pulled it from the deck, so you can tell if it’s “upright” or reversed? I always just read them as though they were upright, but I never paid attention to which way I pulled them out.

If I’m doing a spread where the crossed card is the obstacle or challenge, it doesn’t matter to me if it comes out reversed or not–the interpretation that works best is the one that points out the challenge in the context of the other card. That could be a reversed meaning, but it could also be an upright meaning. I appreciate the freedom the crossed position gives in that regard.

I always took it as, since we read left to right, bottom on the left is upright and bottom on the right is reversed.
