GuestJanuary 30, 2023 at 3:52 amI’m a Reddit noob but my veteran partner encouraged me to share my story here.
I came from a patriarchal, evangelical Christian background that didn’t encourage me to become anything more than a mother and a wife. I fell into the trap for many years and ended up in an abusive relationship with a partner who told me I wouldn’t amount to anything. In 2012 I escaped; look at me now, asshole.
I’m now in the fourth year of owning my own queer, witchy new & used bookstore that’s thriving with an enormously supportive community. Seriously. Our community has been everything.
When we first opened, I started with a witchcraft section that consisted of two subtle shelves labeled “if you weigh as much as a duck”. This small section grew into its own dedicated room in fall of 2022 due to popular demand. Apparently witchcraft is more than alive and well in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Huzzah!
The bookstore is my coming out story. As the community embraced the parts of me I was tentatively sharing, I became more and more bold. I’m now officially out and proud as a queer, witchy, neurodivergent, nerdy bookseller and I knew I was seen when a job-seeker emailed “Independent bookstore owner is gay and has a cat and is probably a witch? Hell yeah, I’d love to work here.”

GuestJanuary 30, 2023 at 3:52 amBook lover here. Nothing, in this whole world, from September sunsets to wind in the high grass, is as beautiful to me than well-stocked bookshelves. But your smile in the second pic still steals the show. Hope life is as warm to you as your smile is to others.
