Basically I purchased a deck with art that I adored and felt very drawn to. But I didn’t even think about the size – it’s 5×7”. I can’t really shuffle it like I’m used to, and I really like it other than the size. So I’m just here asking if anyone else has a huge deck, and do you like it? Did you get used to it?
I guess all I’m asking if for some input to feel better about it. It’s so gorgeous but I’m so turned off by the size. Haven’t had a chance to play with them much, though.

    ETA:
Y’all are incredible, I’ve just been laughing so hard at all the jokes about the title. I didn’t even realize it lmao.
And all your suggestions are super helpful, I really appreciate the insight! Seriously, mission accomplished, I feel better about my big deck! Lmao.
And I got the Alchemical Visions Tarot by Arthur Taussig.

I am not great with shuffling even the regular sized decks. I like playing cards for fun, and sort of had the hang of shuffling those so even the added thickness to most cards I own make me feel odd. Also, depending on the material used can sometimes cause some of my cards to stick together. For me it got better with time/practice. I like to play around with different ways to shuffle anyways. I learned mostly through watching tarot readers on YouTube! I also like to use multiple decks for bigger spreads. Different decks give me different perspectives. I purchased a tarot journal recently where I pull a card and journal about it each day. I haven’t used it yet though haha.

Don’t be embarrassed about your huge deck. Some people really like huge decks. If you play with it enough, I’m sure you’ll get used to its size.

Ah lol at big guy here humble bragging about how hyuuuuge his deck is. Listen. My deck is average sized but no one has ever complained 3:<

All seriousness though I love unusual size and shape tarot decks, I’ll typically just keep them on my shelf for display, but they can be fun to use for readings, you just have to use the scatter shuffle method (spread them all out in a big messy pile, grab sections of the pile and move them around, etc.).

I have an old Thoth deck it was oversized, makes you concentrate on how to shuffle,

If you have a little pop-up stand, you could use your big deck to pull a Card of the Day. Display the card on your stand and ruminate on it throughout the day. That would both showcase the beautiful artwork but not require you to handle them very much. I’m so curious what deck you got! 🙂

I have a few decks that are quite large…Victoria Regina Tarot, the very large version of RWS, etc… I personally prefer a larger deck for shuffling. They just fit my hands better. Aesthetically, I think a larger deck is more lovely, and somehow more mysterious. It has more “ presence”.

Consider the possibility that you don’t need to shuffle — like perhaps lay them all out face down and scrambled, and then pick up your selections, or face down in a line and pick. A different ritual. Once you are used to them you might like them a lot!

While I don’t have a large deck, or at least I dont think it would be considered a huge deck/card size? (Not sure what the measurements are)

I’m someone who’s used to shuffling TCG cards like Yu-Gi-Oh or Pokemon, and my Tarot deck cards are bigger than those, and it was an adjustment for sure.

There are many ways to shuffle a tarot deck (or any type of deck) so maybe just try finding a new shuffling technique that works with the new deck and is comfortable to do.

You were drawn to the deck for various reasons, so I wouldn’t let something like its size deter you from using them. Just go about using them, shuffling them in new ways, playing with them, allowing yourself time to adjust and get used to the size difference.

It’s not the size of the deck, but how you use it. 😉

I took my favourite oversized deck to a die-cut place, and they trimmed the cards for about #30.

Now they are smaller, and nothing was compromised in the art, as there was a too large white border around the cards, back and front.

I’m thinking of doing this with a couple of other decks.

I was gifted a large Thoth deck for the same reason…because the art could be seen better. To be honest, it’s so uncomfortable to shuffle that I don’t use it. I bought a regular size deck and only use the large one for meditation, spells or when studying individual cards

My first deck is a big one. A trick I learned was to basically scatter the cards across a flat surface and then start grabbing and stacking randomly.

I couldn’t take a 5×7 deck seriously as a seeker, how could you give an honest reading? Get normal cards.
