The psychic readings said that my deceased maternal grandparents had reservations about accepting me and that they didn’t think I’d be successful in this lifetime and it was up to me to prove them wrong. It made my stomach sick that they had such a low opinion of their own grandson because I thought the spirit world didn’t judge or care about our conduct and accepted us unconditionally.

If it makes you sick to your stomach then it was not correct information. Correct information will feel right. For example if for some reason that bullshit they fed you were true, if would fill you with motivation and light a fire inside. It didn’t do those things because it was bullshit. Your soul knows, your body knows, what is true and what is not. Also why you want to only go to ethical mediums and psychics so you know they are pulling information from the sources that are designed for your highest good, not just any and all info that comes in.

Whoever gave you that reading was either a scam or doesn’t know how to interpret. It wouldn’t matter if you were a crack head, truck stop sex-worker that was into snuff filming, they wouldn’t judge you.

Spirit world love us unconditionally but will always encourage us to meet our full potential. So unless you are interpreting the message wrong, I’d have to say that I do not agree with the psychic.
But if they see that you have the potential to achieve more then definitely go all out & see where & how you can do better.

This honestly just makes me think about inherited, generational patterns/karma. My interpretation of this is that it’s possible in life your grandparents had certain expectations or ideals (based on their own upbringing) that your mom maybe didn’t meet, and that belief unfairly may have been by extension placed on you without you even knowing about it. So the psychic may have tapped into that energy and was trying to tell you that you have the chance to break the cycle of living by anyone else’s standards, albeit the psychic has extremely shitty delivery. But intuitively, that is what I’m getting. Ancestrals spirits that have “moved on” don’t judge us, they do want us to live up to our fullest potential and they do have memory and will often tap into those memories to connect with us. There are also some that haven’t actually been able to move on and still carry the weight of the human experience with them. So, the point I’m trying to make is, regardless of how your family (dead or alive) views you, you have to live life by your terms and do and embody that which makes you happy. That’s all the spirits that have your best interest at heart truly want anyway, because what’s good for you is good for the collective, too.

No medium worth their salt would tell someone something like that. We don’t take negativity to the other side. I’m so sorry that was your experience! I say you can confidently toss that reading. True messages from Spirit are life affirming and uplifting.

Spirits are still people. They don’t become all-powerful, all-loving gods on the other side. If you do bad or monstrous things then of course that’s going to change how they feel about you.
In any case, I don’t see what’s so negative about what the medium relayed to you. Did you ask whether your grandparents continue to have those reservations? Or were those just opinions they held in life? Are you successful according to your own definition of success?
