If you shuffle your tarot cards like you would playing cards, about half of the cards will end up reversed. If you shuffle it where you’re more moving around groups of cards but not changing the orientation of the cards, they would all stay upright. I’m wondering which shuffle method you’re supposed to do for this reason? Like, I feel like reversed readings are supposed to be kind of rare, so it felt wrong that I was shuffling how I normally would and would end up with half of my cards upside down. So I fixed all my cards to be upright and started shuffling only the second way. But now I feel like I could only ever get a reverse if a card pops out and that kinda feels like cheating for a more positive reading. Also, if you’re supposed to only get a reverse from a card popping outs do you flip it back to normal before putting it back in the deck? Lol I know I’m overthinking this, but it’s been bothering me. TIA ✨

Everyone shuffles differently, but here is my method.

Cut the deck in half and shuffle. I shuffle long edges together, kinda let the cards fall back together instead of the more forceful riffling of regular card shuffling (don’t want to bend my cards)! When I split the deck between each shuffle I turn the right hand half so it will be reversed. After a few shuffles (I usually shuffle 3-7 times, as the mood strikes, so I’m reversing half the deck each time) I have no idea how many cards are reversed.

I just lay them out on my silk scarf face side down and shuffle them all around, then gather them up and do a quick hand shuffle. As I am shuffling I am concentrating on the question / person / place etc. The reversed cards are always very random.

I was actually thinking about this recently and decided that spreading them out and mixing them together on a flat surface is the best way to go about it because then the reversals would be much more randomized than if shuffled more typically. (Also it’s easier bc my cards are kinda big for my hands lol)

I used to be very serious about spinning half the deck between every shuffle and doing 7 shuffles followed by 3 cuts, but now I just do a loose palm shuffle and wait for the cards to come out on their own. I also now always include the reversed/“shadow” component when I read because there actually isn’t really a separation if we are utilizing an esoteric vibrational medicine like the tarot for reflection, insight and integration.

Good question. I actually first do a smooshing shuffle so that reverses can appear. After that I do a normal riffle shuffle and that’s that.

I would have half of upright and reversed cards. Then I would shuffle as many times until I feel like it’s completely mixed. When shuffling while I do my readings, I will notice cards that are either upright or reversed will sometimes spin to land on it’s opposite side. The only thing about how I’m reading is that I only read the jumpers that come out.
