Forums Forums Tarot How do you read reversals when the reversed card is supposed to signify the solution?

I’m practicing three card spreads where it’s

    the unknown
    The challenge
    The solution

    For today I got

    the unknown- queen of swords
    The challenge-sun in reverse
The solution- queen of cups in reverse

Back of deck- eight of swords in reverse

I don’t fully understand how the solution can be queen of cups in reverse unless that’s supposed to mean that the solution is unblocking queen of cups energy or addressing the features of the queen of cups in reverse?

But then what would it mean if the queen of cups had been upright?

Likewise- if the challenge is the Sun in reverse how could the sun upright be a challenge?

The Sun in RW (which this was) for me represents a person/friend in my life so this makes some sense.

    Edit:

    Asked for clarification and got

The Unknown: Queen of Swords clarified by the High Priestess in Reverse

The Challenge: the Sun in reverse clarified by the Ten of Pentacles

    The Solution:
Queen of Cups in reverse clarified by the three of Wands in reverse

Which is even more confusing in terms of the solution.

    ___________
This was a daily reading but I have been thinking a lot about a romantic situation so it might have slipped in.

The queen of swords is very direct and reasonable so I read it (with the clarifications) as to stop focusing so much on my heart and just staying in heart without movement and act with my mind, instead of expecting to embody queen of cups activity, the solution to the delays in the situation would be to do the opposite (more like queen of swords).

Focus more fully on conscious action.

This works because of the sun but also because this person is often represented by the sun/a lot of the features of the sun card match them.

Freedom and release will come with doing this.

On the Sun reversed being the challenge: remember that light can be blinding. Is there too much focus on what’s going well? I’m not sure what the query was, but it could be that your missing the lesson/not moving forward because you’re busy enjoying the sunshine.

Queen of Cups reversed: for me, this reads as a need to focus on self love and self care. The solution may be to take inventory of your own needs and prioritize them

Queen of Swords: this might be some boundary work somewhere. Either setting boundaries for yourself, or a need to have a conversation about boundaries in a clear manner – without getting overly emotional. Since this is the unknown, perhaps you’re running into someone else’s boundaries or some has/will run into yours. You’re going to want to deal with that situation in a cool, level headed manner.

I hope this helps! Tell me if I’m way off haha

When using reversals, it’s a good idea to decide before hand what reversed will mean. The opposite of upright, a blockage, a delay, or a near miss, are all examples of what a reversed card can mean. Pick one so that when one shows up, it’s easier to figure out.

The Queen of Cups is compassionate, understanding, and a good listener. As a solution, be unreasonable and refuse to listen. You don’t say what situation you asked about, so it’s difficult to go beyond that.

**Looks like you’ve mentioned reversals! Reversals are a reoccurring topic here and are [explained in our FAQ](https://www.reddit.com/r/tarot/wiki/faq).**

Reversals are cards that are dealt upside down in a reading. Some people choose to read these cards differently than if they were dealt right side up. This is completely optional – everyone’s tarot technique is different. Some people find reversals bring more depth to a reading, while others find that they obscure or muddle interpretation.

A reversed card can be read multiple ways; it can be interpreted as the opposite of the card’s upright meaning, or that the card’s upright meaning is somehow blocked, concealed, ignored or delayed. It can also be read as an indication that the “action” of the card is happening – or needs to happen – internally.

[See recent discussions on reversals here](https://www.reddit.com/r/tarot/search?q=reversals&restrict_sr=1).
