Posts I’m working towards my professional goals. I’ve been candid about making sure I’m being realistic about my goals and plans to reach them. My work mentors that are actually *in* the department I’m wanting to break into (decidedly all women) have assured me that they are within reach and have generally given me so much support and encouragement.
But today one of my leaders set me up on a blind-date-style development meeting with an old white dude who really wanted to pull me down and fuck with my ambition. So can I please have your best recommendations for woman power anthems & bops to smash the patriarchy? I need to make a damn playlist.

Oddly enough… “short skirt/long jacket” by cake
I don’t recall it being a feminist anthem when it came out but there you go. You can argue that its a man singing about his idealw oman but the “perfect woman” he describes is a fucking tiger of a lady. It’s all in the lyrics. Very professionally focused for me as a scientist.

Not a woman power anthem, but “9 to 5” by Dolly Parton might speak to how you’re feeling. Plus, belting it out to a good Dolly song always makes me feel better. Good luck!

literally anything by any riot grrl band like Bikini Kill. riot grrl was a punk movement mostly in the 90’s if i remember correctly, that was about feminism and women.
