Hi! Tarot noob (kinda) here. I typically do a one-card spread when I wake up in the morning every day to provide insight, and then on the first of every month I do another one-card spread for the month ahead. I was thinking of doing a similar spread for the new year, but I feel like it’s too big a span of time to do in a one-card spread, if that makes sense.

I was planning to do a 4 card spread on 1/1– one for each quarter– but I was also wondering what you all do.

    TIA!

If I do a year-ahead reading, I will pull twelve cards at the first of the year and then, at the beginning of each month, I will pull a “companion” card to kind of freshen up the outlook. So each month has two cards, a long-range one and a more immediate “clarifier.” I read them like a “noun/qualifier’ in a sentence, kind of like the “what” and the “how.”

I have a good one for you. An alternative Method of Reading the Tarot Cards from The Pictorial Key to the Tarot by A E Waite. Each line is 2 months period.

    Process:
    1. Shuffle, deal out 42 cards in 6 packets, 7 cards each (1 packet – 7 cards, etc.) from right to left

    2. Take the 1st packet, laying them on a table from right to left, place the cards from the 2nd packet on top, etc. (You have 7 packets now)

    3. Take top cards of each packet, shuffle, lay from right to left (your 1st row)

    4. Take 2 top cards of each packet, shuffle, lay 2 more rows under the 1st one

    5. Shuffle the rest of packets, lay the rest of the rows. You should have 6 rows (7 cards each)

1st row is for January and February, 2nd – March – April, etc.

After you are done reading all rows:
    1. Take undealt cards, shuffle, divide into 6 packets from right to left: 1st – 7 cards, 2nd – 6, 3rd – 5, 4th – 4, 5th – 2, 6th – 11.

    1st packet – home, environment
2nd – you, or whoever the reading is for
3rd – passing events, people, etc
    4th – a surprise
5th – consolation, what helps during unfortunate events
6th – extra cards when additional info is needed

I do a huge spread. I have a tarot and an oracle deck that I use for New Year’s. I draw 12 tarot and 12 oracle cards…..24 total……for the themes of each month for me. I then review these cards at the beginning of each month.

I regularly do 12 month spreads for clients. Using 2 decks, I lay 12 cards from one deck, 1 card for each month, then using the second deck, I lay a card on each of the cards already down. The cards from the first deck represent what’s happening each month, while the second deck cards will describe why it’s happening.

As an addition, I then read each 3 month quarter and draw an oracle card to give a sort of roundup.

Every 3 months or so (from the start of the year) you could do a three card spread for What To Do, What Not To Do & What To Look Out For
