Deck by James Boyle and Gina Tomaine.
A friend got these for me over the holidays and I’m obsessed. They feel really good, the edges are sharp, and they shuffle so smoothly. Just handling them makes me happy.
But the art…I don’t even know where to start. It’s so fantastic and was so well done. You can tell each representation was chosen with care and that real thought went into the choices. The Major Arcana cards are both funny and kind of perfect (The Liberty Bell as The Hanged Man!), but I think I love the minor more.
The Cups are cheesesteaks with Mummers (which is problematic but I see why they were chosen). Pentacles are SEPTA tokens with marathon runners. Wands is a sculpture held bt city workers. Finally Swords are the quill, which is hands down my favorite, with Parking Authority workers. The court cards have their own people as well.
Highly recommend this deck to anyone who loves the City of Brotherly Love and is looking for something a little different to read with.
