JessicaParticipantGood day to all:)
Iβm still beginning in my tarot journey and Iβm curious what spreads everyone here prefers? Do you stick with one or two, or do you vary regularly according to what answers you are seeking?
Iβm also wondering about question formulation, I find this to be the thing I struggle with most.
Do you ever just not formulate a question, and just spread the cards and let them say to you whatever they want?
Thanks to any who respond.
I appreciate yβall being here so much!- CreatorDiscussion

So in terms of question formulation, I don’t particularly enjoy yes/no questions just because things are not always what they seem and everything is more complex than a yes/no answer. There’s always more things to consider, things that sometimes we can’t see.
… I like to keep questions open. What do I need to know about todays energies? What is important to consider regarding my career? What do I need to know about my relationship right now? – and I always like to focus the question on myself (or the querent). Instead of asking “why does my boss not like me?” – “what can I do to better the relationship with my boss?” is better in my opinion. Same as the standard “what does my ex think of me”. There are some readers who will ask these questions, it just depends on the reader. But definitely keep your questions open. I wouldn’t just pull random cards and interpret because you could be completely off the mark as it could be referring to a different situation.
For spreads, I stick to the same 5-6 spreads I know and love. As you’re a beginner you can start off with a card of the day and do simple 3 card spreads. Find them in your booklet or Google, Pinterest, biddy tarot, a book, loads of resources online! Just don’t try to take on loads and do a full on celctic cross on your first go. Take it slow, baby steps, see what makes you comfortable and where it takes you!
I hope this helps, and if you have any more questions, please let me know! I’m happy to help π

GuestFebruary 2, 2021 at 9:39 amThe spread I’m most comfortable with is Celtic Cross. I’m trying to branch out my spreads, so thanks for opening up this dialogue!
When I ask my question, it’s not just a one-and-done type of thing. As I shuffle, I try to have deep focus on what I am trying to understand, which may involve asking the question over and over again in my head, or asking multiple similar questions that have slight variants. It just helps my mind stay focused on the task at hand, rather than get distracted. And like u/vampireondrugs, I like to keep a very open ended question that focuses on action, not outcome. Things like “*What can I do* to help with this relationship” or “*How can I open myself up* to this promotion” Things like that. Hope it helps and have fun! π
