I’m going to preface this post with me iterating that this post is NOT telling people how they should practice or what they do with their lives. However….
Being a witchy shop owner is not the end-all-be-all of being a practitioner. If that’s something you want to aspire to, GREAT! Go for it! But I have noticed a disturbing trend of people that are just starting out already selling readings, or opening Etsy shops, etc. People are treating it as an “easy job” or get-rich-quick scheme, then get frustrated when they can’t survive on their own with it.
I’m sad to say it but we are either already in a recession, or entering one. And the businesses that will be hit the hardest are the small ones as people cut out frivolous spending in order to better afford groceries. It would be more beneficial to you to use your magick to get ahead while living IN the system.
Use it to land jobs instead of trying to use it as your job. Magick is a tool! Also… If you just think about it… If EVERY practitioner opens a shop, sells readings, and what not, then the market will be FLOODED with that (it already is), and none of y’all will be successful lol.
As I’ve mentioned in other posts, I personally use my magick to land jobs in an extremely competitive, nepotism-based field where I had no contacts whatsoever coming in. As well as the usual kinds of spells to protect myself and my family, keep spirits out, divine for myself, etc… But my magick works for me. I don’t try to be a “professional practitioner” because, as I see it, I’m a hell of a lot more successful than they are with the way I use my magick to make my life easier, rather than trying to live off it to live out my own personal fantasy of being a full-time sorcerer.
Listen to me or don’t listen to me; do what you want! All I’m saying is there are other ways to live as a practitioner than JUST the shop one, and it doesn’t make you any less of a witch/warlock/sorcerer(ess)/whatever. In fact, you may find yourself having MORE time to really delve deep into the research and theories you are interested in and have found.
