Currently, I am learning about the Yod aspect. I’ve seen that some astrologers have certain parameters for it to be of use in a chart/life, others don’t use it, while others think it’s a powerful aspect.

What are your thoughts? What do you know about this aspect? Have astrologers you listened to discussed it’s importance or lack thereof?

Clarifying the language for technical reasons: Yods aren’t an aspect, they’re an aspect *pattern*. **Aspect Patterns** are combinations of planetary configurations wherein three or more planets form a series of aspects to one another, making some type of grand shape in the chart. A Yod (also called a Hand of God) is one where two planets form inconjunctions/quincunxes (150°) to a third planet and sextiles (60°) to each other.

Defining, isolating, and delineating aspect patterns is a fairly new thing in astrology. None of the resources I’ve learned from so far have touched on them (besides Carole Taylor’s book), and whenever I see something about them online, it’s usually pretty lackluster. From what little I know, they’re supposed to be these incredibly important things in a chart, but there’s no consensus on what points you can/can’t include in them, how wide their orbs can be, or what they mean. There’s also no clear origins for their significations, which leads me to see them as nothing more than words in the dictionary of modern astrology that you can use to spice up your psychoanalyses.

Yods are the least interesting of these patterns to me. They’re composed of a minor aspect (quincunx) and the weakest of the major aspects (sextile), and yet they’re paraded around as these rare, grand indicators of cosmic destiny and spiritual development. I haven’t seen anything convincing about using quincunxes in isolation, let alone using an aspect pattern with them in it.

Fun fact: Yod is a path on the tree of life. It connects Jupiter (Chesed sphere, “Mercy”) to the Sun (Tiphareth sphere, “Beauty”). Jupiter is the great Heavenly Father. While the Sun is, well, the “son”. It’s also the center of our universe. The path of Yod is associated with the Hermit which is Virgo’s card in Tarot. And Virgo being associated with purification, harvesting, etc.

This resource goes into more detail, but wanted to give a lil tid bit on the Kabbalahistic significance: [The Path of Yod](http://www.thealchemyofholism.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/The-Path-of-Yod.pdf)
