Meanwhile, I’m over here having to spend several minutes psyching myself up any time I have to make a phone call.

My absolute favs were the French pirate and the woman who killed her husband’s murders and burned an entire city with sparrows and pigeons. “Fly my pretties! Fly!”

My true hero though is the Indian flight attendant who gave her life protecting children.

What I take away from this: if you’re a 56-yo woman getting attacked by a wild animal, there’s a good chance you’ll live.

Susan Kuhnhausen’s story is so amazing. She was an ER nurse for decades so she was super strong and describes her attempted murder so matter of factly.

Highly recommend Allena Hansen’s book [Chomp, Chomp, Chomp: How I Survived a Bear Attack and Other Cautionary Tales](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20446895-chomp-chomp-chomp?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=Zvbx1lU8ML&rank=5). Most of the book is about her life (which was absolutely fascinating) with a retelling of her encounter with the bear at the end. I don’t typically enjoy memoir type books, but it was cheap and I wanted to support her when it first came out. I was actually really delighted by it.

I feel the need to add context about Kim Campbell, because what she did is actually more impressive than it makes it out to be. First off, Both my Mom and my Dad served in the U.S Air Force and when I was young I legit wanted to be an Air Force Fighter Pilot (no neither of my parents were pilots, and despite 12 years in the U.S Air Force my dad ironically gets nervous on planes.) but I still love planes, and more to the point up till I was like 15 the A-10 was my Favorite Plane.

The A-10 is a flying Brick. It does not maneuver well and its also slow as hell its top speed is about 400 miles an hour and yes for a Military Airplane, have a top speed that far below the speed of sound counts as slow as hell. This is a plane that was literally built around a gun to basically shred tanks to pieces and other ground targets. The A-10 is also very heavily armored for a plane, So if her Plane was that torn up that that many systems are down then the A-10 even after getting that corrected must have been gone from Manuevering badly, to manuevering so badly that she had to be basically perfect with everything she did. She’s not just a great pilot, she’s on the level of pilots who make history books, she’s Sully Sullenberger level good.

Id say#2 doesn’t really belong. Lots of women have been military cadets.

The one with the high schooler in the plane crash needs a bit of context.

Her parents lived in the Peruvian jungle and taught her how to survive. She was both aware of the area and roughly where she was and had been given explicit instructions to follow the river if she was ever lost. She did was she was taught.

Not saying it isn’t bad ass hiking for 9 days through the jungle with a torn acl, broken collar bone, fractured leg, that’s some true grit, but the picture makes it seem like our was just average every day girl just fell out a plane, and that wasn’t the case.
