Albedo_AndromedaMemberAll the consumable things I’ve offered lord Thanatos have piled up , usure of how to dispose of them I asked him if it’s okay if I consumed them , 2 of swords , queen of cups , 7 of cups , 6 of swords and high priestess showed up . I felt like he said “as you like” if that makes sense . I’ve been working with him for more than a year now but people told me at the start of my practice that you should never consume leftover offerings from cthonic gods so that’s why I’m unsure .
What do you think ? And sorry for the wacky english -

A little question about offerings

GuestDecember 28, 2021 at 6:10 amI will give the same answer today that I did just yesterday.
When I asked my teacher 25 years ago about this they said, “Spiritual
beings don’t eat corporeal food. They take the spiritual essence, and
what is left is the leftovers, which they give back to you. As it is now
a gift from who you offered it to, it is an insult not to accept it and
eat it yourself, or give to your family, friends, or animals. A gifting
of it to the animals in Nature is also okay, as it is your food now.
But throwing it out was considered disrespectful. Many traditions out
there. That is how I do it. BB. -

GuestDecember 28, 2021 at 6:10 amI also suggest you use a pendulum for YES/NO answers instead of tarot. Tarot is very nuanced.
You don’t need to buy a pendulum, a ring on a string works great. Or a rock you like. Basically anything heavy on a string/necklace/dangly thing.

GuestDecember 28, 2021 at 6:10 amOf course you cam eat them. Thanatos is probably surprised you’re talking about him at all (considering cthonic deities were usually spoken about in euphemism of at all) Offerings have been eaten all around the world, leaving them to rot would have drawn pests and illness in the old days, and throwing them to nature would be seen as wasteful at a time when people couldn’t afford to waste food like we can today.

GuestDecember 28, 2021 at 6:10 amMy coven would leave left over food offerings to “the little folk”, i.e. fairies and the like, by bringing the food offering outside, saying a few nice words to the little folk, and leave them the offering. This can be done during or after your circle/ritual.

GuestDecember 28, 2021 at 6:10 amI sometimes consume things I have made as an offering, and know that I put this whole thing together for the purpose of a delightful offering. The thing is to be succint and not spend too much time about the method, so that the ends don’t become the means in your craft.

GuestDecember 28, 2021 at 6:10 amI mostly bury compostable offerings in my garden. So there’s that option too.

GuestDecember 28, 2021 at 6:10 amI’ve worked with Thanatos for over 20 years, nothing bad is going to happen. He has little interest in the physical food itself and is still bemused at getting any offerings at all.

GuestDecember 28, 2021 at 6:10 amOmg Thanatos is my main patron diety and I remember months ago asking I could drink a little tea before giving it to him. He gave me Queen of Cups and King of pentangles reversed to clarify. Sort of like a neutal response “you can drink, I’ll end up having less, but I’m not too materialistic”. And then when I was super worried after I had drank (I felt like I had taken something so it could be perceived as rude), he gave me the hanged man haha. In my experience he’s very neutral to a point that it’s weird, if you just explain to him what you’re doing.

GuestDecember 28, 2021 at 6:10 amDon’t consume the offerings, the god or spirit might get angry and take back everything that gave you and then some, you could get rid of the offerings by leaving them out of area where the roads intersect or you could simply take them out to a park and leave them under an old tree but please don’t eat them
