    Okay. Typo in title.

Over and over I read posts in this sub with some of the following themes. Can I learn to be a medium? Is it fun? Can I train through Meditation?

This life is about service and responsibility. Read that again.

You can begin this. You can choose to shut it down if you are overwhelmed. You can not turn it on and off like a light switch. It can affect your emotional and mental health, if you are not ready.

I cannot meditate for anything. I did not learn. I experienced. So, I recommend it to the lucky people who can do it. I try.

Few. Very, very few find fame. If they do find that, it can corrupt them as mediums. They can lose their way. They can forget their purpose.

    Choose wisely.

As young people, children and teens, we go through a phase where the supernatural is exciting and seems extremely attractive. We might get caught up in films, television shows, internet productions. Myself, I am much older than a teenager and giggling my guts off watching the British production of Ghosts. IMediumship, is not.like “Ghosts”., except for the never leaving the medium alone part. That made me chuckle.

So. We see, “Can I learn to be a msdium”, here a lot. Yes. You are better off born with the ability, although it can make childhood at night terrifying. It is never the way it is portrayed in media.

You are not going to be able to completely control what you see or what you attract .

If you think seeing spirit is cool and it would be fun, don’t do this. It is not about seeing fun spirits. You will see spirit with problems. Big problems You will see spirit that were total jerks in life. They don’t cross. They don’t change or advance until they do. Addicts.homelsss addicts, spirits who can add smell to their presence. Violent criminals. Victims of violent crime. Victims of grief and abuse. Religious fanatics.

If you think you are strong enough to deal with these spirits or negative entities attracted to your growing light, think again. This life is not a game.

Can you help souls? Yes. If you learn how to do so. If that is what you are meant to do. The souls who need the most help are not the easy ones.

Reading fro people whose loved ones were lovely people is wonderful. It can be the opposite as well.

It is not a hobby, though. It is a vocation. It is something that happens no matter your profession or your preferences. And, it is not cool. To look t a car carrier with ten wrecked vehicles next to you at a stop sign, and to see two deceased women, still in the car, manngled.and trapped there while their families think they are at peace. If you think that is “Cool”, you are not ready to be a medium.

Mediumship can be wonderful. It is validation and love in the best moments. It is unlicensed spirit therapy at the worst. The things that can try to attach to you are more than awful.

Just take care. Please. I believe the worst signs are those who come to these psychic subs with the wrong expectations. It is amazing. Itbis work. It requires strength. It does require networking with those rare, other real psychics, to shed some.of the worst encounters.

We do have immensely rewarding moments. We help murdered people to cross over. We are involuntary therapists. Dead people are the same as they were when they were alive, and they do not suddenly become great people.

Can you help living people to contact their loved ones? Yes. You can. You will also, if you are that type of medium, see and feel what their deceased loved ones, went through.

Itbis a reason clients lie about the way their person died. It is a reason they do not yell you that they were terrible to the deceased personnor that their actions may have amounted to abise or neglect. Could you do a reading for a straight abuser? Could you help a child who is being tormented at night by shapeshifters?

Can you be that responsible 24/7?

This is a lifelong commitment to service. I believe it takes maturity. It takes resolve.

I see posts from new mediums daily, regarding negative entities in their homes. I see posts from new mediums who have attracted negative energies that are terrifying their young children.

What did you think would happen if you allow yourself to be vulnerable? You are not the only individual whose health is at stake.

Even the most seasoned mediums have energies approach them who do not understand the word. “No”. If you do not deeply consider what will approach or atrach to you or your children, do not seek to develop into a medium.

I pushed mediumship away to the side for a long, long time. Spirit got through.

It took me two years to help one soul who actively haunted a store and whose goal wasn’t to go to peace, but to make as many people as possible see her in her awful state and to feel the pain of her murder.

It took two years of pushing her off, and listening to her try to freak me out before she finally got it through her thick and decaying skill, I was not going to allow her to continue to cause harm and fear, to others.

It took years for me to learn to be strong enough to do what I did for her. It wasn’t fun. She wasn’t a good person, either.

If you want to be a medium, learn to ground, shield and protect yourself. Practice over and over and over. It may still, not be enough if you tend to fear or insecurity.

Then, understand you may still see and encounter things you were are not prepared to see.

Most mediums walk around and do not have television shows or fame. Most mediums, do what they do quietly without anyone knowing except the dead.

    >Most mediums do what they do quietly without anyone knowing except the dead

    This is really important

Only in the past year have I been open about being a medium online, and I constantly get people glamorizing me and my experiences. It’s “so cool!” and “Wow I wish I could do that!” and “That sounds fun!” I know they mean well, but they are only seeing a filtered version from one person’s perspective.

This is hard work, a 24/7 job I’ll have all my life. Of course I have healthy boundaries and I can protect myself and I’m not frightened of my abilities, but it’s difficult too.

People treat me and my experiences like an entertaining freak show and it really puts me off. The dead don’t exist for our amusement.

I mean i don’t blame people for being interested. Being medium is literally “extra-ordinary” in the way that it is out of the usual.

I often tell my friends that being a medium is a gift and a curse (although i find it ungrateful to see it as such so i don’t). But yes it is hard and can alter you in many ways.

I believe we all have gifts. And it’s okay to be different. We should all learn that because something is seemingly amazing, it doesn’t mean that we should be able to do it. Hell, I love gymnastics but would i go through the training and the dedication? No and i’m fine with it because i am satisfied that other people are living THEIR calling.

So yeah… let’s all be satisfied and learn from each other

I don’t think people can train to see spirits unless they’re born with that potential. I don’t think everyone is wired that way. Can people train to interact with spirits, in some form? Sure, some intuitive abilities can be developed and much of them are also related to skill as much as talent.

But can people become mediums who aren’t born with it, to the point they see and interact with spirits in their living room, that has not been my experience. I have worked along side of many advanced spirit workers, and generally they don’t suddenly start seeing spirits later in life, unless it was dormant during their early years.

I don’t recommend people seek out spirits of the dead, or other spirits because so much of what’s out there can harm you. It’s not necessarily malicious, some of what’s out there is just toxic for living people. Death-energy can make you sick, mentally unstable, and if you don’t know it’s not good for you, and you just find it “cool” that’s when attachments form. Astral entities are usually feed off vulnerable unprotected people. Other spirits are often just ambivalent towards people, not caring that people are ignorant as to their customs (such as the fae) or other nature spirits.

If you can’t read or see who and what is harmful you can’t as easily protect yourself. This is why I dont recommend people seek it out, but people ignore this advice. As u/Ricottapuffs said those people often come to people like us to fix their mess. It happens with enough frequency, that it would be nice if people paid attention to the warnings, rather than think they the “special” exception.

Wow OP you sound over it. Lol. I’ve seen spirits since I was 13. Always knew I was Intuitive and went into the helping professions. To be honest I am almost 45 and just within 2 years decided I would explore what I had repressed for decades. Thankfully, I have a strong spiritual squad just from my past lives of always being a medicine woman or witch.

I agree with almost everything you said, except some of us born with natural abilities don’t really have much of a choice. I had negative attachments totally destroying my life and I hadn’t been doing anything to attract them other than existing (in fact, things spiraled out of control when I stopped doing all spiritual practices, but I hadn’t been doing anything considered dangerous before that either). I guess I could still take the approach of learning to protect myself and not further develop my abilities, but … well, that’s just not what I want to do, for various reasons.
