I think it’s about how all of sexism is culture. All it would take is one generation educated correctly on spotting and avoiding sexism and it wouldn’t be a problem anymore.

Absolutely agreed there. Until we all are free and equal, none of us are.

Reminds me of one of my favorite poems. It ends with a caution against expecting the servile womb to breed free men. https://ronnowpoetry.com/contents/hope/Advice.html

The free women in my life have no doubt made me the man I am today: Compassionate, responsible, and driven.

Without experiencing equality and freedom as a kid, I definitely could have been brought up worse.

If you need or are interested in supporting reproductive rights, [I made a master post of pro-choice resources](https://docdro.id/s3OwS8u). Please comment if you would like to add a resource and spread this information on whatever social media you use.

I would be nothing without the strong and wise women in my life. I also wouldn’t be alive if not for them.

Women deserve equality. True equality, because it is objectively right.

While this was written inna different time, I also think its important not to believe that men don’t have agency to choose who they want to be also. Men could absolutely end patriarchy if they decided to. Men don’t need women to teach them, they can learn themselves, and also that’s not women’s responsibility.

Also not all children have mothers, or are born to mothers. Some trans, agender, and non-binary folks choose to be parents as well. If I chose to have a child as an enby, I would not be their mother. Parenting doesn’t need to be done in s gender binary. Perhaps being raised without thr gender binary would be even more liberating than expecting mothers to raise “good men”??

And I suspect a child raised by anyone of any gender can be taught not to be a misogynist — OR can be taught misogyny and choose to rebel against it.

I get this is from a different time, sure. But its kinda like quotes about civil rights from before black, brown and indigenous peoples across the world were considered human—maybe we can adapt these words and credit “inspired by” to make them relevant and not exclusionary for our present moment.

Eh this quote is alright. It still has undertones of “men rise and women are there.” After all, the quote focuses on men being “great” if women (particular MOTHERS) are only “free.”

Why not “There will never be a generation of free men until there is a generation of free women.”

And this is true on so many levels. Stop toxic masculinity and let men (and women) freely express themselves in ways that are healthy and don’t hurt others– that’s freedom. Want to sip whiskey, get a pedicure, raise children, be child free, have 20 cats, or work in any profession of your passion? Do it! No social expectations or rigid gender roles to hold you back. The more people freely get to express themselves and pursue their passions, the better society is too. Reducing toxic masculinity literally addresses a lot of the issues that men’s right activist *supposedly* stand for (mental health, child custody, men in dangerous jobs).
