I’m sensing that you get along really well with this person in one way but maybe fall short in other areas (for example, you share similar interest/hobbies, but different political views–just an example, not what I think the exact situation is). Your differences will cause conflict, but if you can get past this, it can be a successful relationship based on the things you have in common. You also have to be willing to embrace change and leave the past behind. You need a very in-the-now attitude in order to be able to pursue this relationship.
