IncogIncuMemberQuestion for those of us who do bone work, what do y’all consider ethical bone sources. Obviously natural shed/death are but I’ve come across a steady source via a local vet and unsure where they stand on the scale. They don’t remove and kill for harm and only do so when needed.
So ethical sourcing of bone or not?

GuestFebruary 23, 2022 at 11:06 pmProper medical waste seems legit.
Most folks ganerally have no desire to keep parts removed from living pets.I’d be more concerned about contamination if you have pets at home. Handle with care.

GuestFebruary 23, 2022 at 11:06 pmI thought it’s fairly ethical but my question is how on the world are you getting bones from a vet?

GuestFebruary 23, 2022 at 11:06 pmI’m not against the practice, I’m just really curious how one goes about asking for this? It seems like such an awkward conversation.

GuestFebruary 23, 2022 at 11:06 pmVets treat pets and pets are family members to a lot of people.
Animal control treats strays but unless you know an inside man, idk what form you’d have to fill out for that lol
Sooo I’d probably just go to a butcher or like the supermarket. You know, for ethical reasons.

GuestFebruary 23, 2022 at 11:06 pmThat sounds very unethical on their end,I highly doubt they have permission from the bereft owners to sell parts of their beloved pets to witches, that’s really scummy.
Don’t think just because someone is a vet that they love or even respect animals, don’t forget it’s vets that go to factory farms and give their seal of approval to uneducated teens ripping off baby pigs testicles with pliers and stuff. Vets perform cruel unnecessary procedures like cropping dogs ears, docking their tails and declawing cats.
