Like I said I’m new, so I probably expect the downvotes coming, however, I’m curious what your initial turning point of truly believing and “seeing for yourself” was like.

Like at what point did you do a spell and realize, yes, there’s more to this world than I thought. This is real.

Edit: lol as expected, always downvotes for new people. Perhaps I’ll post elsewhere. Thanks to those who answered.

I’ve always cast spells when I needed something to happen. Not complex workings, simple “wishing upon a shooting star” stuff.

I dismissed them as little fantasies of mine. But after a while I started thinking, “Yeah, no, it’s weird that it always works.” Because logically, it should happen *sometimes* you know? Not *always*.

Anyway, the one wish that made me raise my eyebrows was when I wished for a dog. In the span of two years, my allergy to dogs disappeared. My workplace decided to embrace working from home. Covid happened, making it possible to spend time on a puppy.

And then I found my dog.

I had an encounter with a entity when I was young so I always was pretty sure something else existed like a spiritual realm but when I realized witchcraft worked was when I did a hex on someone (not proud of it) and I buried it in the yard and marked the spot I immediately had roaches show up on my bed which I have a phobia of and hadn’t even seen 1 in my room since I was like 10 and they kept showing up. and shit kept falling off my counters especially at night and immediately got nightmares so I went to dig up the bottle and it was gone.

The first time I made my own black salt was for when I was living with my mother and little sister that played with our neighbor’s granddaughter that’s a few years older than her and was a really bad influence on her at the time. I got tired of how my sister acted when it came to her coming around, so I put down black salt to hopefully keep the other girl away and not only did she start going to her other grandmother’s house more, but her and her mother moved out of the house a couple weeks later.

When I was a child I did things, affecting the tuning of radios, electronics, electrical circuits, and so forth. Then I grew up and forgot childish nonsense.

When I came back, the very first thing I did was heal a friend. He literally threw gasoline on a bonfire and it exploded back at him. Second-degree burns on his skin, half his beard was gone, you get the idea.

Within 3 days there was no trace of a burn, or even a scar.

I was a teen a few (cough, cough) years ago.( Yeah its been awhile) and I did a mean spell on a classmate that had a near instant result.

Oh the joys of teen years, emotions needed for spell work was so strong…

    Anyways that sparked my interest.

Now at this stage in my life I can look at some recent spellwork and also see how real it is and how spells can work as intended. I saw can because one I did a back in about October worked better than I thought it ever would.

I have always been interested in witchcraft and the occult but I was always skeptical too. Kind of “I really wish magic was real but it’s not realistic” way.

Then my great grandma passed away, who was one of the most important people in my life. And I started getting messages from her. It got to the point where I couldn’t really ignore them. And then I spent 2.5 years lurking on the various witch reddits, reading lots of books, doing a lot of research. Just really trying to learn and also determine what practices fit with my belief system and what doesn’t. I learned a lot about ancestor veneration but also that I don’t believe in deities personally. And then I slowly started doing small spells and being scared, I asked my grandma to help assist me with the magic.

And now I call on her energy to help me a lot with spells and I also do a lot of tarot readings and angel numbers to stay connected to her. I’ve been learning and practicing for 2.5 years and my life has really turned around since I’ve fully embraced my power. I was really slow and patient with myself and I feel like it really paid off and now I have a way to grow for the rest of my life. I also did a letting go ritual in December and I’ve been able to finally move through some severe trauma that has debilitated me for the past 8 years.

I think it’s great that you’re getting started! Be patient, do your research, and don’t be swayed by what others say you should practice. Practice what resonates with you and what you believe in (i also always lean towards respecting closed practices). Good luck on your spiritual journey💖✨🌱

For me, it was a cumulative effect. I had always felt a connection to the old ways. I am from Ukraine originally. While my mother would never admit any connection to witchcraft (she is a doctor) she has a wealth of knowledge on old folk remedies and superstitions that have been passed down through generations. My grandparents taught me to respect the Earth and all her gifts by tending to their garden, where they grew everything from currants and pears to peas and carrots. I started dabbling in witchcraft in high school, and for awhile, my connection to my intuition was shut down entirely after I was put on medication for “depression”. I was out of touch with reality and myself, and eventually succumbed to addiction. It wasn’t until I quit and eventually stopped taking all my psych meds that suddenly it felt like I had literal superpowers; it turns out that I am claircognizant. Even in my active addiction I began to see recurring signs and patterns that led me to the realization that I have a greater purpose, and that I was letting my gifts go to waste. Meditation and yoga helped a lot, as well as having respect for my body and mind. It comes down to intention and manifestation, and I can tell you that it is a 100% real shit. Magick is real. You just have to know and believe.
