Yes! Except I don’t call mine ancestors. I read in a book that they are different versions of your higher self and that resonated for me. I haven’t actually seen them. I recognize their energy signature and the way they express themselves.

The two things I do with my spirit guides are: 1) ask for energetic support, usually in meditation. 2) Ask for comments or advice for a situation that is bothering me. Like…What do you guys think/say about this?

I see it as a counsel.

    >Personally, I always say I do not have guides. I say that I have ancestors.

For me they are close friends, or family members. I often say I live in a [commune](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intentional_community), more precisely. It is human’s closest possible relationship. And the people we often connect with are our “neighbourhood”. (My use of “we” vs “I” is intentional.)

    >What are the functions of Spirit Guides?

To each other we have no “functions”. I only have functions to my employer. I believe in equality, no matter which world one comes from. We should help each other in the best way — as it is the closest relationship — but that is not our “functions”.

And this “best way” includes transferring the control of the body. You know, not everything can be done with the mind. For equality, this wonderful device (the body) must belong to the commune and not to any individual. And there should be a democracy for important decisions — that is basic human rights, isn’t it? Most people disagree with this, and I understand. The world needs time to reach stability. Compare this to the fact that most countries in the world are not democratic.

Life is not my journey. It is our journey. The commune is devoted to helping each other.

    >Spirit guides are not negative. … That’s not their purpose.

We are perhaps more utilitarian. Both positive and negative things can be useful, in different ways. We pursue good results using everything we can do. (Compare: even nuclear bombs could be good — when deflecting an asteroid that would collide with Earth.) But you are right, that’s not their purpose, but the methods.

    >They are great resources. They are those counselors who allow us to ask ourselves the questions, so we can move forward, with confidence.

And we are great resources to each other. We bring the questions to the committee for debates, so the commune can move forward. We are each other’s spirit guides.
