Long story short, I do not have my birth certificate from the hospital and my mother and father are both passed away. I’m really interested in creating my birth chart and reading more about it, but everywhere I read says I need to know exactly what time I was born and I don’t really have somebody that I can ask that. my brother was my legal guardian for a time after my mother passed away, and I asked him but he has the same exact birth certificate that I do which does not list the time. I was going to try to get a hold of vital statistics and see if they have a different birth certificate than the one I have but the one I have does not have a time. What obstacles do I face if I try to create my birth chart without a time and is that even possible? Thanks!

When you go through the state, request complete records, not just the birth certificate. There’s a form that is called different things in different states, but it is typically called a “long form” and includes birth time, attending physician, etc

    First, a caution.

    * Do not think you can know your rising sign (which is what a birth time gives us), let alone the degree (very important) by what you look like or what you feel like, or what other people tell you that you are like. This is NOT how it works. One could be a cancer rising yet have their sun in scorpio, or conjunct mars or mars in the 1st house and they will “seem like” a scorpio rising. Too many thing impact how the rising is seen in people. Even just planets in the 1st house can change significantly the expression of the rising sign. Never mind that most descriptions of signs people have access to online are very generic and/or very stereotypical
    * Do not use an online calculator for this. Again, this is not how it works, and you will be misled. It simply isn’t possible.

What you can do (if born in the US):

    1. Go online and find your state’s site for ordering your birth certificate. It’s usually called the Vital Statistics Dept. Or something similar. Just google *order birth certificate* with your state name. Make sure you find out if they have both a short and a long form (not all states have both), and order the long. Not all states or even towns include the time, but many do. An official birth certificate is not usually the same thing as a certificate of birth from a hospital.
    2. Contact the hospital where you were born and request the actual medical records of your birth. Not a certificate of birth. The actual medical records. Every woman in labor is carefully monitored and each step is noted on the record with the time. When they take her blood pressure they write it down with the time. You will receive copies of the actual papers the nurses were noting every step on, with time. Even if the actual minute of birth isn’t recorded (I can’t imagine that ever happening), you’ll have a much-narrowed time window for a pro astrologer to work with. You may have to provide proof of your mother’s death (a death certificate), since medical records are private and they are hers as well as yours. You can order that just as you do a birth certificate.
    3. Check newspaper announcements in the town you were born in. Check your baby book or scrapbook if you have one.
    4. Professional Rectification. This will run probably $175. And can only be done by a well-trained, experienced, professional astrologer. Don’t spend money on anything less. Save up til you can afford the real thing, rather than trying to get a cheaper solution. If you are a bit older, it will be easier to do the rectification – perhaps 30ish. Unless you’ve had an incredibly eventful life already. The astrologer will need as many life events as possible from you, with dates. Accidents as a kid or adult, times when you moved house, the dates of the deaths of your parents, getting married, having a child, getting a job, losing a jog, serious illness, etc. Anything and everything. Because all these things can be timed with certain advanced astrology tools, and this is how they pinpoint not just the sign of your rising (and hence a 2-hour window of your birth) but also the exact degree (the actual hour and minute of your birth). It’s pricey because there are a lot of hours involved, and the use of a number of advanced astrological tools.

If you want referrals to professional, qualified astrologers who do rectifications, DM me and I’ll give you a couple of names.

one cool thing you could find would be your ascendant sign with approximate birth time. For instance, if I check my chart 1 minute before, I am libra ascendant. But 1 minute after, I am scorpio ascendant. Then I checked both of the descriptions, for visual hints, etc. even asked on this subreddit what would people say is the different between the two, and the difference was VERY VERY obvious in my case, im a scorp. also btw, theres birth chart rectification, where depending on your life events, people can figure your exact birth time. There is even free online ones, I tried them but I do not have enough life events to figure it out. You could give it a try, good luck! 🙂
