“Meme” is kind of like “joke” in that we use it as both a noun and a verb 🙂

It’s funny, because irl there was a whole century of pushback against the novel for being a bad influence on women (and that there were also a lot of women novelists).

I think my smartass bookworm answer to this has to be “define bad behavior.”

After all, if there’s one thing that we learn from reading: perspective matters.

But also, yes: A+ meme. You made me laugh! (And have a bunch of childhood flash backs ranging from getting benignly chided for reading at the dinner table/formal functions/under my desk to more serious forms of protest inspired by the massive empathy I gained from reading to my favorite – getting a whole ass day of in school suspension, where as far as I can tell I was rewarded with 8 uninterrupted hours of reading – 10/10 would do again).

    I just googled this

    1. A discovery of Witches
    2. Shadow of night
    3. Book of life

Thank you OP. My fall reading is sorted.

I just placed hold on all three books in the local Library. Should be available in two / three weeks hoping no one extends their turn 🙏🏾✨

My first thoughts: 1. Deconstructing harmful childhood worldviews with timely nonfiction books. 2. Reading Macbeth and turning full bearded witch for spooky season 😂

In the 1700’s there was a big moral panic about novel reading – getting caught up in a storyline of anything that wasn’t a tedious classic or non-fiction was considered bad behavior.

It was basically the old-timey version of “kids these days are always on their phones.”
