AriannaParticipantI’ve noticed that chart rulers, certain zodiac signs have more than one. For example, scorpio rules over mars and pluto. does this mean that there’s 2 chart rulers in someone’s chart?

GuestSeptember 4, 2021 at 5:11 pmI see that you’ve already had your answer, but I just want to add a quick note since this is flagged as beginner — the zodiac signs do not rule over planets; it is the other way around. Scorpio is ruled by Mars (and Pluto if you’re using outer planets) but Mars and Pluto are not ruled by Scorpio.

GuestSeptember 4, 2021 at 5:11 pmThey’re co-rulers. The faster moving inner planets are the traditional rulers, and the outer planets are modern rulers. It’s really up to preference which ones you use; I find the modern rulers are closer to their ruled sign’s energies, however due to being as slow as they are, the traditional rulerships are much more personal in a chart. When I look a Scorpio Rising, for instance, if they’re anywhere close to my age they’ll likely be a Pluto in Sagittarius; whereas if we’re using Mars, it could be in fall in Cancer, in domicile in Aries, or whatever else – the latter provides much more personal characterization in a chart.

GuestSeptember 4, 2021 at 5:11 pmWith the traditional rulers, each planet rules two signs, except for the luminaries (sun & moon) who just rule one each.
If you use modern rulers, then you have to either replace the traditional ruler or use two rulers for those signs.
Personally, I use the outer planets but don’t give them rulerships.
