I used the monthly check in spread by incandescent tarot.

Deck : tattoo tarot by megamunden

Background: I have been through a recent break up of 5 1/2 years. We lived together for over 2 years and I have had to move back in with my parents to finish off my masters degree. I’ve definitely been struggling with my anxiety the past 2 months but I’m working through it in therapy and I’m really excited about the progress. I’m also in the middle of applying for a teaching degree (PGCE here in England).

Reading left to right, bottom to top.

1 – current self : 5 of cups. Relates to mourning and loss. Definitely resonates due to a recent break up and the heartbreak I experienced.

2 – theme of the month : king of coins. Working on better the self. Putting effort in and hard work paying off. Reaching goals and being proud of achievements. I’m currently working towards finishing my masters degree and applying for a teaching degree for next year. I hope this relates to that.

3 – a key goal to pursue : 6 of cups. Though this card represents nostalgia and being influenced by past events I believe it is also the minor arcana card of children and youth? If I’m not mistaken it can relate to working with children which is what I’m working towards by applying for a PGCE!

4 – an obstacle to overcome : 9 of swords rev. Not allowing mental illness to relapse and overwhelm. I have dealt with anxiety for many years and recently started cbt so I’m hopeful I’m moving in the right direction to manage that better so it doesn’t negatively impact me this month.

5 – a major accomplishment : 2 of cups. This one I struggled with a little bit. I know this card represents harmony and positivity which is great. I think I’m seeing it as becoming harmonious within myself rather than with a specific person. Potentially the idea that there could be some self growth and self love that occurs in the next month. Being happy with my own company.

6 – what to avoid : queen of swords. Another tricky one. Potentially suggesting I shouldn’t suppress negative emotions or hold back on feeling the pain of the past events such as the break up. This one I definitely need help with!

7 – what to embrace : 10 of swords rev. I take this as getting over the worst, things getting better and seeing the light at the end of a tunnel. I survived the pain of past events and that’s something to embrace going on.

8 – where to find support : 9 of coins rev. Another one I struggled with. Mainly I see it as not getting caught up in material things and buying stuff to fill the void. At some point spoiling yourself stops being a treat and begins to turn into a negative. Again I’m definitely struggling with this one.

9 – advice and encouragement : king of swords. I see this as setting a routine and being disciplined with work in order to succeed. I definitely thrive when I have a schedule. It also suggests to follow my head rather than my heart. Maybe to be more logical about situations than react emotionally?

I feel like this was a pretty positive reading over all and I haven’t had a spread that’s resonated so much in a very long time. I stopped consulting the cards for a few years and have gotten back into exploring my spirituality again.

Any advice or further interpretations are welcome! I’m still learning the deeper meaning of cards so please do share

Sorry you’re having a rubbish time lovely. Totally agree about the 6 of C being about teaching, that’s so lovely. In know your card placements mean something else but I am totally drawn to the two male and female counterparts crowing your reading and your reversed 9 of P… I totally think you should take this time and focus on yourself though. The world (particularly the UK, lockdown no.47 anyone?!) is a strange and pretty fractious place at the moment. I just heard that your relationship was taking too much away from you, I’m not sure how right that is but you’re never going to go wrong by investing in yourself so please do that, nourish yourself and remember why you’re doing what you’re doing x

I have nothing to add to your reading, I think you got it in the first try, just wanted to offer my profound thanks for introducing me to this spread. I’ve never seen it before and it looks like it will be very helpful for me.

There are only eight, but they’re all solid, the spread questions are very well thought out and posed, and all spreads have complete explanations included.

I’m aware that the Monthly Check In is a very basic spread and that there are many like it out there, but you can tell when effort and thought has been put into them and IMO those give the very best readings. This is one of those. They’d all be fantastic for beginners too, because each position is clearly explained.

I’m seeing unity in the center (surrounding the 6 of swords) and left, and divide on the far right (king of swords). I’m not trying to validate anything, im just saying what I’m hearing
