Deck interview spread for the Dark Wood Tarot by Sasha Graham, art by Abigail Larson.

This is my interpretation of the cards. I’m a new-ish reader so be gentle. (Top row 1-3, bottom row 4-6). I’m using reversed cards as that is the way I like to use the cards. I have based my interpretations relative to the cards positions.

Open to any alternative interpretations, but I’m not requesting it. Just thought I would share.

1. Tell me about yourself – Five of Wands
Lively debate, conflict. This deck will tell me what’s up, whether I want to hear it or not. I see the elemental dragons protecting the mushroom. This deck will protect me with honesty.

2. What are your strengths as a deck? – Two of Pentacles – Reversed

By showing me the duality and my choices in my situations presented. How to roll with the punches and make choices that aren’t rushed. To read between the lines and see the grey of situations, not just black and white (considering this is a shadow deck, this speaks volumes).

3. What are your limits? – Six of Pentacles

Reciprocity. It will give as much as I put in, but no more. It is up to me to get what I want out of the cards, it will not do it for me, only assist.

4. What are you here to teach me? – The Empress

It will show me that I am the creator of my own life and destiny. It will lead me on my path of creativity, spirituality and self discovery that I have embarked upon recently. It will help me find my passion.

5. How can I best learn and collaborate with you? – Three of Cups – Reversed

Be inclusive with the deck. Don’t hide anything, be open and honest even if I don’t want to. If I do this, together we will achieve what is desired and become incredibly bonded.

6. What is the potential outcome of our working relationship? – Six of Swords – Reversed

It will assist me on my current journey to find myself, to become who I want to be. But what we give in life is what we receive. I must not give up, I must not be afraid of failing. If I let it, the deck will get me to the end of my voyage.

In all honestly, I’m absolutely in love with this deck. I was a little concerned because it’s a shadow deck, but it just feels perfect. The imagery speaks to me a lot because I love nature and the woods, but also the darker side of things. The companion book that comes with it is detailed and thorough, with at least 1 page per card. It explains how the deck can be used (as it is a shadow deck) and how to interpret the cards intuitively as well as noting they can be read traditionally too. It’s exactly what I wanted.
