Kinda a long post but maybe an interesting read if you’re up for it lol.
Tldr either my grandma or my house growing up was haunted. When my grandma died a huge weight was lifted off the house.
Growing up, my family used to say our house was cursed/haunted. Aside from being #13, my father would tell stories about the emotional abuse and neglect by his parents, both alcoholics and both suffering from severe depression. There was a lot of negative energy pent up in that house. It also burned down twice due to separate freak accidents. My grandfather died before I met him and eventually my mom and dad moved back into the house with my grandma.
Just a bit about my grandma, she grew up in rural Canada and although no one has any idea if this is true, she claimed that Native Americans would look into the windows of their cabin. My mom has always said that if this is true, perhaps she has some Native American spirits attached to her. My grandma was a devout born again Christian and didn’t believe in any kind of occult things, although she has some stories of spirits she’s interacted with in other houses she’s lived in.
Back to the house, before me or my siblings were born, one of my much older cousins died of an overdose in the attic. Shortly after that they sublet the attic room to a nice young man, but when he moved out, they found discarded love letters written to a lover pleading for them back, written in blood.
My entire life I lived there, I felt extremely heavy presences. You could just feel the heaviness walking into the house. Especially in particular areas. For example, the head seat of the dining room table, the attic stairs, the back door in the laundry room. Sometimes when sleeping I would hear random foot steps walking across the hallway. Other small things would happen too, such as hearing what sounded like someone whistling a few notes downstairs when no one was around, another time my sister and I were both walking down the stairs and both saw the same image in the blink of an eye which looked like an older woman standing in front of the fridge about to open it. I remember she turned to me and said did you just see that? Many nights, trying to sleep, I would feel an extremely strong presence of something in my room and would be frozen in fear. I would start praying in those moments and asking for love and light and protection and the feeling would go away and I would feel safe again. My father unfortunately, also struggled with alcoholism, and a lot of unresolved anger towards his parents. He told me once he had a reoccurring dream where a ton of people were in the house and trying to push him out the door.
I could continue with more detail, but the gist of this is that once my grandma died, that heavy weight lifted off completely, and suddenly, I could walk through that entire house in the pitch black without feeling any negative energy coming from anywhere. It was incredible. My mom thinks my grandma took whatever negative spirits there with her when she left.
For many, MANY years after moving out of that house, I had reoccurring dreams about it. I felt like something was pulling me back there. Something unresolved. Dreams which had the same heavy energy. It took a ton of deep diving into my psyche to resolve some of that, but I still have those dreams occasionally to this day. I understand that might not have any relevance but, I feel it’s possible that there is a connection between my dreams and the house itself. The closest I can compare it to is the idea of “shining” like in the movie lol. Idk if places really “shine” in real life but it did feel like that house itself was a presence.
Anyways, I find all this very interesting. For some reason I feel an extremely strong connection to all of my relatives/ancestors on my fathers side. I’ve been really compelled to research the family lineage really extensively and learn all of their names. When I had a reading from a medium many of them came through.
I’m just curious what others think of this I guess. Or any input? Am I tied into all of this somehow? Do other people have similar experiences?
