JessicaParticipantI am currently a teenager with only one deck. I currently am drawn to a beautiful deck that I found online. The problem is that I can’t find legit copies of the deck. I also stumbled on a post on Tumblr that consciously buying a pirated deck is considered stealing and might affect my readings. Even if I want to buy legitimate decks, I don’t have money to do so. What should I do? Do fake copies of decks affect readings?

Do Fake Copies of Decks Affect Readings?

GuestFebruary 7, 2021 at 4:53 pmThere are many legitimate and amazing decks available for very reasonable prices. Buying counterfeit decks is a no no if you ask me and most on this community I would say. I don’t think I need to tell you why this is so. But that is obviously your choice. So, own the choice. Would it make a difference if people told you it wouldn’t affect readings?

GuestFebruary 7, 2021 at 4:53 pmKeep in mind that there are usually a great deal of errors and quality issues with counterfeit decks, and those –in a real way– can affect your reading: crap paper quality, misspellings, very off center printing, reversed cards, etc….. a part from it being a morally shitty thing to do to an artist.
There are lots of cheep decks, lots of time to save up $$, and lots of readers who only ever have one deck their whole lives.

GuestFebruary 7, 2021 at 4:53 pmIf you post the deck maybe we can find a used one that is reasonably priced. Then you can cleanse it with Sage and/or a Moon Bath. 🙂

GuestFebruary 7, 2021 at 4:53 pmNo. You can make out of copies and use them. It’s about channeling the message. When you have some money for cards buy them or get used ones. Don’t worry about it 🙂

GuestFebruary 7, 2021 at 4:53 pmBuying fake decks supports stealing. A lot of creative energy and hard work goes into making decks, and by buying a fake deck you encourage thieves to do more of the same. Be better than that.
If you’re really strapped for cash but want to learn, there are free apps like Golden Thread Tarot. RWS decks are also fairly cheap, especially secondhand.

GuestFebruary 7, 2021 at 4:53 pmBuying counterfeit is more of an ethical thing. Is it important to you that the original artist gets the funds for your purchase or you dont care/not important to you? There is no right or wrong way to answer this as it is a moral dilemma and morals are relative. To specifically answer your question, from what I understand, counterfeit wont impact your reading in any way as it is still a complete intact deck.
