EDIT: I’m not going to do it. It’s to risky and I don’t have the knowledge to go through with this. I’m keeping this post up, so that other witches with similar thoughts can read the comments here

The LGBT community in my country is facing a serious threat to our freedom, a law that would essentially legislate our existence away. It would ban pride parades and even prohibit so much as mentioning our existence in the presence of children. Earthly means don’t seem to help the madness that my country is experiencing in the past few years, so I thought maybe a supernatural protector could help.

So, as far as I know, the Golem is a kind of protector of the Jewish people, one legend talking about one having been created in Prague by a Rabbi when the Jewish people were heavily antagonised. One ending claims the Golem was destroyed, as it threatened the entire city, another claims that it is still in an attic somewhere in Prague and will come to rescue, should the Jewish people be threatened again. (I personally think the first ending is true).

My question is, would a Golem help non–Jews? Can a non–Jew create one safely? I know the process, but would it be considered disrespectful for me, a non–Jewish transgender man, to create one?

Another thing, is it possible to create one without invoking the Abrahamic God’s name? I don’t really want to call on Him, as I’m ambivalent to what the highest power really is, and as of now I find the God and Goddess route to be the most plausible.

I am Jewish, but really really new to witchcraft/spirituality but here’s my take.

You can do basically whatever you want, so long as you are respectful of the Jewish roots of the Golem. The Golem, while clearly a part of Jewish mythology and special for Jews, still can be called upon by anyone. However, you need to still remember that the Golem is part of Jewish mythology and folklore, and you need to both respect that and keep that in mind. Basically I’d say you can call on the Golem, so long as you avoid cultural appropriation.

Also, I understand that you may have issues with the Abrahamaic god, and I certainly don’t want to push you into following any deity you don’t want to, but I personally think that if you were to call upon the Golem, a Jewish mythological figure, I’d say that it would be more respectful at least to acknowledge that the Golem is primarily a servant of the Abrahamaic god. You still don’t need to pray to the Abrahamaic god or do anything like that, but just acknowledge that that is a crucial part of the Golem’s history and that you must be respectful. If you believe in any universal, singular/infinite overarching deity, then maybe worship them, and if you do not believe in any sort of monotheistic/monist/pantheistic deity, then maybe just respectful thank the Golem and its god in a respectful henotheistic way? Of course don’t do anything you don’t want to do, but I think it would just be helpful in order to make sure that you’re being respectful of the Jewish origins of the Golem.

Anyways, I wish you and the whole LGBTQ+ luck, and have a happy and safe day!

What do you mean you “know how to make a golem”? Do you mean, sculpting a clay figure or bringing it to life?
Also, here’s my thoughts: If you are successful, what’s to stop the horrible outcome in the lore? Aggressiveness and murderous rampages might not be what you want.
I am NOT Jewish. I cannot tell you if it is disrespectful to them… but this isn’t something Jews just do. Its reserved for wise men who have dedicated their lives to their faith.

I’d recommend Binding, so the law does no harm. I’d recommend protection for the community overall; also perhaps if it’s called for, magick to confound their efforts to harm the community.

I dont know about creating a Golem but I know a thing or two about the Abrahamic God the more relevant here is that they doesnt share. I wouldnt involve them unless you really believe and worship them and only them. Would that make a Golem impossible to make? Possible, I dont know if the Golem, for example, would see none believers has people to protect or would simple ignore them; or that they simple will not work. The Abrahamic God is the God of 70% of the population of the planet and only Jew have the tradition of Golems so it may be that only them can create one. This obviously, only my opinion; you would need someone raise or well versed in Jewish magical tradition to get a reliable opinion.

So… It’s not often that I get to be existential about Rule 3. Not flaring up though because this is only my personal belief which is only the basis of the rule.

I’m a firm believer that anybody can practice anything that they want. They can cast any spell that they want.

My belief is that if you know of it then you are able to do it.

The question of whether or not it will serve you is a question of the spell that you cast.

Witches cast spells. To make a golem and bring it to life is to cast a spell. Witches and Jews are both humans.

    Humans cast spells.

This sounds fascinating! You mention that you already know the process. Please share: What exactly is the process?

Golems are Jewish black magic to create a slave entity and manipulate it.
