Do you play the tarot when you’re sick or recently had surgery? If you do, do you notice any difference? I’ve had surgery 2 weeks ago and I don’t feel like touching my cards. I don’t know if I’m just having anxiety or if it would really make any difference on the readings. I’m not experiencing pain though. Do you guys have any experience regarding that? I’d love to hear/read it! Thank you

I’ve never had any surgeries, but I avoided my cards (and any other exercises, like meditation) when sick. I felt weak. My cards and exercises required energy what I didn’t have, so I just waited until I got better. And maybe I would have felt being disrespectful if I’d still done them while sick.

I’ve not had surgery but I’ve had both the experiences of using and avoiding my cards when sick and/or fatigued.

Sometimes I just don’t feel like picking up a deck, I may even get one out due to habit and just have it around, without ever feeling the pull to actually read or shuffle. Other times I’ve tried to read to pass the time but I struggled to make sense of the cards due to brain fog or disconnect. Other times I’ve enjoyed a reading during bed-rest and found it helpful.

If you don’t feel like reading at the moment, that’s totally valid. It may not be down to anxiety but could be that all your conscious and subconscious energy is focused on healing and resting your body right now. If you do feel like using your cards, maybe try a one card pull to see how you go. I know it can be an odd feeling to when your pull to tarot has “switched off”, especially if you usually make cards a regular part of your life. Don’t worry, it doesn’t necessarily mean anything is wrong and you’ll fall back into the habit when you’re up to it! I hope your surgery went well and you feel back to your usual self soon!

If you don’t feel like using the card then don’t?

I went several months without reading. I hadn’t had surgery but was going through bad times and didn’t feel stable enough to read. My sister almost died of cancer my mom had it and so did a good friend referred to as my mom. My sister and mother recovered but I lost my friend. It was too much. It was exciting when I started reading again.

When I’m sick, I simply don’t have the energy to read with my cards. I may stim with them though (i.e. just touch them or even smell them–weird, I know XD). Reading some of your responses to other comments, however, it seems like you’re thinking 50/50 on whether your readings may actually energize you during this stressful time. Totally valid to refrain from using your cards, of course, but if you feel either the craving or curiosity to play around with them, you should give it a shot no matter how tiny the reading. 🙂

    Get well soon!

I don’t even do tarot when I’m tired. I think it’s important to be in an alert, stable mindset.

I had an appendectomy at the beginning of November. I couldn’t really read Tarot until like a week ago. It’s not that I felt different, it’s just that I didn’t had the mental energy to do so, And I needed to wait until I felt more “back to normal”. I don’t know if that makes sense, but it was my experience

Any time I feel fatigued; whether mentally or physically – I don’t mess with my cards. At least for me, reading take a LOT of energy, so trying to do readings while I’m already on my last legs is just a guarantee to be out of spoons for at least a few days.

The past few years I’ve basically been in a state of constant stress and severe anxiety due to school and general life crap. As such, I haven’t touched my cards more than once every 2-3 months. I make sure they’re safe and usually throw a few crystals in each of their bags/boxes just for good measure. I’ve never had an issue randomly pulling them out and reading with them as if no time has past! They’re always more than happy to jump right back into it, regardless of how long their break has been.

I will say, doing a reading for myself takes only a little bit of energy. But doing a reading for someone else takes a LOT more, especially based on how far away they are from me physically. So that also makes a difference.

One of my friends was recently diagnosed, and thankfully now in remission of, breast cancer. She hadn’t been feeling well and pulled a few cards. Whatever she pulled compelled her to go get herself to a doctor and get cancer screening. Two doctors said no she didn’t have it. But her gut told her to keep going. Turns out, she did have breast cancer and she caught it at a great time.

I don’t like doing medical readings for other people, but I don’t see any harm in doing them for yourself. Connecting your body with the cards could become as sentimental as connecting them with your thoughts

It’s okay to not touch your cards in a while, doing it while you’re sick will interfere with the energy and probably would be a confusing reading or just full of blocked energy. There is no rush to do tarot when you don’t want to, tarot is to search for guidance when you want to, take a break of it and when you feel ready to touch them again, you will know 💕

I had to go into hospital for surgery in July and took 4 decks with me, fully expecting to be spending my time reading. I did 2… and they were rubbish!

Although I wasn’t in pain, I think my energies were so depleted, I just wasn’t connecting. I thought I’d lost my ability!!

It wasn’t till a month later that I took out my cards, just to see what would happen. I turned my first card and I knew I was back! I nearly cried.

Don’t underestimate the toll that any kind of illness/surgery takes on our energy. When the time is right, you’ll be able to get back to your cards.

After surgery I didn’t touch my cards. I didn’t do it deliberately. All my energy was focused on resting, regaining my health, and doing all the post surgery care that I needed to do. Thinking back on it now I see no issue with it. Do you have the energy physically and mentally to do readings? If you do then go ahead.

“Play tarot”???…..if you mean drawing cards, so then no. Intuition is not fully relaxed and the health and psychological state affects the cards you see.
