throwawaylvaMemberMy nephew and I were talking and he told me that whenever he has nightmares, his dad “does a dream circle”. He’s only 4, so he can’t quite articulate exactly what it is. He also told me that “mommy’s dream circle is a secret”. I’ve never heard of it so I’m just curious.

Markings on buildings
Edit
Apotropaic marks, also called ‘witch marks’ or ‘anti-witch marks’ in Europe, are symbols or patterns scratched on the walls, beams and thresholds of buildings to protect them from witchcraft or evil spirits. They have many forms; in Britain they are often flower-like patterns of overlapping circles.[20] Taper burn marks on thresholds of early modern buildings are also thought to be apotropaic marks. The wikipedia word was apotropaic

GuestOctober 4, 2022 at 1:41 pmClarification: He told me that when my brother “does the dream circle”, he draws something high up on the wall, near the ceiling. He doesn’t know what the “drawing” looks like because it’s too high for him to see.
