mars has better ability in pisces traditionally than any of the others, especially in the last decan of the sign where it enjoys decanic dignity. that mars is the archetype of the martyr especially for religious or spiritual ends.

mars in cancer is fallen; mars in libra and taurus is in detriment.

a planet in fall is equivalent to a fall from grace; i think about people who were great when they’re in the limelight for some specific reason but then they fall outta favor and kinda crash and burn on the whole. pick a celebrity who fits this, there are many.

fallen mars is the archetype of the war hero who comes back and brings the war w them. now they marshal the whole of their militaristic training toward everyday things like passing emotions, frustrations, etc. mars is cardinal here so this mars could initiate quite passive aggressive behavior.

mars rules scorpio traditionally so it’s not the water that troubles this mars, its the short burst of cardinal action that mars devolves into. mars in scorpio is a fixed river rushing and unchangeable; mars in cancer is a geyser that blows unexpectedly and w potentially v little provocation.

there are obviously constructive uses that this mars can be put to but an adjustment is needed so this mars learns to let some emotional frustrations go and only the ones that require it’s war-like efforts get it.

detriment is a whole other beast.

I have Mars in Cancer, in my 12th house also a Cancer Rising. I find this fascinating.

I have Mars in Cancer in the 8th, and one way that has come up for me is that mars can actually be pretty nurturing if you can use it to “fight”, aka advocate, for yourself and others who need it. Imo, one of the best things about Mars in Cancer for me is that it has taught me to become extremely protective of myself, it has shown me thru the cancerian memory why I am the way I am and how that’s not my fault. As a result, I’ve learned to stop beating myself up. I now accept all my feelings, even if they are uncomfortable or would be deemed “wrong” by society. And now I finally have that nurturing “home” that I never had before with and thru myself. I act in ways that are supportive of me.

Now, of course, I don’t necessarily act on feelings if doing so would get me in trouble in some way, and I think that’s also one of the values of having Mars in a sign where it’s not going to act impulsively.

Mars in cancer is driven to help not just themselves but for the general good, and it’s in a cardinal sign so it is quite strong but being cancer is subtle and profound. Facing daily battles? As long as there is hearth and home to come back to sure! Look to the rest of the chart abd how mars is aspected. Don’t buy into the passive aggressive, sad and indirect bs either

I love this thread, it was so informative. Thanks to everyone that shared. I have a Mars in Cancer placement as well and I feel like it’s something I struggle with (pair that with a Capricorn sun/rising and Sag moon). I’ve been trying to gather information on what it means and how it effects my operations so I can use it to my advantage. I currently feel like it either inhibits my ability to speak up or I go straight for the throat and am extremely offensive, possibly physically aggressive.

As a Libra Mars, (and sun) I have no problems taking charge or action, but I have a hard time making decisions, and/or taking action on impulse. I’m also an Aries MC and Virgo Mercury, and I tend to get what I want and easily bulldoze over people once I made a decision and believe in it, but that can also mark it harder to “know” if I’m in the right and so I’ll hesitate and over think until I either blow up (when I was a kid) or determine the “right” decision.

I also tend to hesitate to take charge, but usually end up doing so. Usually to make others feel better and less overwhelmed.

Mars conjunxt Mercury in Cancer here, in 11th House (also have Sun and Chiron in 11th House but they are in Gemini). All I have to say is, I am stuck in “freeze” mode for the large majority of my life. I am extremely protective of wildlife and nature, but find it impossible to get over my crazy anxieties (Mars+Mercury square Moon and SN in 3rd H) to do anything about anything.

In a way yes because I think they will react in a more emotional way than the other signs which I think could translate to action. I have 12h mars in Taurus also retrograde so taking action really takes a lot. I’m married to a libra mars and I think even the cardinal energy helps there initiation wise too

I have natal Mars in Cancer in the 12th house, retrograde opposing my Sun, Neptune, Uranus in Capricorn, squaring my Jupiter in Libra and trining my Pluto in Scorpio. I am a Capricorn/ Leo with Gemini Moon. This Mars of mine also rules my MC, since it is in 29th degree of Aries. All I can say – my life is never boring.

I’m a 22 degree Pisces Mars in the 5th house. I feel my energy comes in spurts….I can really jam with something and then have to hit the couch and go under a blanket and write in my journal lol…..

All mars listed are weak I’d say except maybe Taurus.

I have Mars in cancer 1st house. It squares my sun and moon in libra. I can be a very emotional person when something personal triggers it. I learned to control it. It allows me to be a protective and nurturing person. Yet, I had physically hurt a few people in the past. I can be a procrastinating person. Mars helped me to hustle in this world (good way).

Omg, loved the apt description of Mars in Libra! Yes…bull in a China shop can be me at times. I also have my Mars conjunct my Merc (plus Sun & NN) all in the 5th house. My Mars conjunct Merc can sometimes create unnecessary aggression (in thoughts & action) and then I have to often pull back from that stance & aim for greater diplomacy. This whole lifetime is about communication skills, right action, diplomacy, fairness & social justice. But, I’ve not always been consistent in such endeavors so like you stated, it’s more the “ideal” and can sometimes seem quite abstract.
