Does spiritual marriage exist?

I don’t know if this subreddit is the right place for this question. Forgive my ignorance. I live in the part of the world where spiritual marriage is believed to occur frequently and that a spirit can marriage either a man or a woman without consent. In effect, they bring woes, disappointment, lack of material success etc. The question is, does spiritual marriage actually exist?

Maybe it’s another way of saying a spirit attaches itself to you? While I think spirits can affect our energy field if we’re not protected, I don’t think they can ‘attach’ or ‘marry’ themselves to you permanently. Perhaps in your culture it’s a way of explaining mental illness or negativity/bad luck? Can you give us a clue what part of the world so we can research more?

I’ve heard of handfasting being a marriage between souls on all planes, but it’s a completely mutual thing. Not an attachment of one unbeknownst to the other
