Demetra George is excellent. And if you are interested in sect and other traditional methods she will cover those. Not sure how much is in the ***Astrology and the Authentic Self: Traditional Astrology for the Modern Mind***. I know she covers sect at least to some extent in that book, just can’t remember to what depth. But it’s a good, solid book to study.
She does have a new book: A***ncient Astrology in Theory and Practice, A Manual of Traditional Techniques***, and it can be ordered at [Rubedo Press.](https://rubedo.press/ancient-astrology) There’s an episode (just over an hour long) with her about this new book (it’s volume 1 of 2) here:
[Demetra George on Ancient Astrology in Theory and Practice](https://theastrologypodcast.com/2019/01/02/demetra-george-on-ancient-astrology-in-theory-and-practice/)
There are two other episodes there with her. Just do Ctrl F on the Episodes page and search her name.
Other good authors you might like a lot are Benjamin Dykes – he has a number of books and talks at his site. I loved his “Traditional Astrology for Today”, written particularly for those who have been more familiar with modern. And Chris Brennan’s Hellenistic Astrology is excellent as well, and will keep you busy for a long while (700 pages worth).
Rather than looking for a book that will describe each planet in a sign or house (not sure if you are), try to focus on a really deep understanding of a planet, and a house, and a sign. This may be too beginner for you, not sure, but have you done the four episodes on signs and houses at [TheAstrologyPodcast.com](https://TheAstrologyPodcast.com)? They really go more indepth than what you’ll usually find out there, discussing not just the sign more deeply, but the modality of it, the element and the ruling planet, and they contrast and compare as well, which is very helpful (such as the difference between mars ruling aries, a cardinal fire and ruling scorpio, a fixed water). They also clarify how signs and houses are different things as well as any nuances for a couple of houses that confuse people into thinking they are the same, but instead are just some similarity. Episodes 231 and 233 (do those first, including the very long introduction) and then episodes 175 and 180. Also, the site has begun a series on the planets, going in depth, one at a time with a guest astrologer for each episode. So far, the sun, moon and mercury have been covered. They are in the more recent episodes.
