Gathering the small crystals for spell jars from larger crystals?

Does or has anyone gently tapped off parts of your larger crystals for your spell jars? I wouldnt do this with my heirloom or special crystals but I have numerous crystals of the same type that are smaller. I hate to buy stuff like that when I only need a small amount of something at a time? Thoughts, suggestions?

I personally wouldnt do it as crystals can be fragile, they may release sharp dust that can cause harm to your lungs. Best is to just get smaller sized ones rather than.. y’know gathering them from larger ones. There is much of the small ones, not as much of the big ones.

Also damaging crystals hurts them. I’ve had a number of traumatized crystals that required healing before I could even use them.

i’ve done this, i had a nice chunk of amethyst i broke off for spells!! go for it, everything is about intention
