If so, was it less painful than the first time you got it inserted?

Thank you for your insight, sisters! Get your IUDs replaced while you still can.

My second IUD hurt way less then my first one. I remembered how much it hurt the first time so I took 2 500mg Ibuprofen and half of a Xanax(my OBGYN prescribed this to me specifically for the procedure, worth asking about!) an hour before the procedure and boy howdy that cut the pain by at least 2/3. Highly recommend.

I’ve had 5 IUDs. The first one I got six weeks after giving birth and that was the easiest, presumably because my cervix was still a little loosey-goosey. After that they were a bit more uncomfortable. But after a few hours and some ibuprofen, I don’t have to think about it for five years. Bonus, I haven’t had a period in 20 years!

I had been thinking about getting it removed and not replacing it, but in light of recent events I’m reconsidering. Even though my husband had a vasectomy and women my age normally need a lot of medical intervention to get pregnant…

Yes. It’s never been easy, in part because I’ve never delivered at full term. It’s not as painful as childbirth, but very little in the world is. It’s a crime against humanity that in the U.S., pain relief for the procedure is treated like an inconvenience and rarely even offered, let alone used, for people having the procedure.

I don’t have an IUD, but if you want a less painful option, I definitely recommend nexplanon! It goes in your arm and i had absolutely no pain whatsoever- you do have a bruise for a couple days but even that didn’t hurt that bad. Just wanted to share about it because a lot of people don’t know about it!

    Ask your doctor about lidocaine!

I’m on my third. They all hurt. I take about 600-800mg of ibuprofen beforehand and it’s ~30-45 seconds of pain and then it’s done.
