Forums Forums Magic, Witchcraft and Healing Help! What kind of homemade holiday witchy gifts can I make? This witch is broke!

Hi everyone! I’m going through a divorce and barely able to make rent as it is. My family and friends know this but I feel awful receiving gifts with absolutely nothing to give in return.

I’m working on my own herbal tea/bath business so I give my loved ones quite enough teas as it is and they’re not really bath people. I was thinking of the following:

    – holiday mugs I already have (unused) filled with deconstructed hot cocoa and homemade gingerbread cookies
    – holiday, homemade potpourri/dried simmer pot ingredients
    – a fairy terrarium with moss and stones
    – homemade candles with recycled wax and reused jars (all cleaned and fresh essential oils added)

Ideally I’d like to spend less than $20 per person.

Let me know what kind of ideas you have!

Honestly, a cheap wine + mulling spices in a tea bag makes for a great gift. You won’t look cheap about it because you shouldn’t heat up ‘good’ wines, mulling wine is meant for the cheaper varieties.

So do cookies. My mom makes me cookies every year and she can afford presents but its just what I want bc cookies.

One year when I was really broke I had $25 and about 60 people on my list.

I did a custom divination for each person, printed it out and cut the strips.

Then I made baseball sized fortune cookies, stuffed the divination slip in, dipped the edge in chocolate and festive sprinkles, and put them in little bags with tags.

I once had no money. I wrote each person who had helped me get out of my abusive relationship a special note. I gave one an ornament off my tree, one a crystal, one a dish and for my sister I went and helped do a deep clean of her house. Each gift was special to the person I gave and each note told them personal things that I wanted them to know. It cost me nothing but what I gave each person something special and personal. They were all so appreciative and touched. You may be able to give something to those you live that is not monetary but far more special. Blessed be

Someone gave me all the dry ingredients for oatmeal chocolate chip cookies in a mason jar, tied with pretty ribbon and the to/from card had the recipe and instructions on it.

    My favorite gift so far!

It’s not very witchy but you could make your own chocolate truffles and dust them off with coco powder, then make boxes for them. I think 2 large lindt dark chocolate bars, pot of cream, knob of butter, sugar and flavourings makes about 20 truffles. For flavouring I either do lemon (grate the lemon rind plus use all the juice) or add lots of ginger powder plus some fresh ginger…but I like strong tastes.

Your ideas all sound great. I always try and make at least some of my giftings – tradition from my mama – some of what I’ve made this year that you might have stuff on hand for (esp since you’ve listed herby things and wax already). I do make bath/body stuff for sale but I did some that aren’t in my shop just for holidays: a calendula/plantain salve, lavender flax & rice pillows, wax melts, marshmallow root infused chapstick, alfalfa mint soap (though for soap you really need to plan 4-6 weeks ahead), incense, and a witch ball or two (but one might be mine after all). You could also do a christmasy granola pretty cheap with dried fruit. A couple of years ago, I did baked goods – little breads and syrups and stuff.

I love simmer pots – so much that I almost hate to give them away lol. My oldest kid reddits and probably lurks here so I can’t list what I made them this year but not too long back, I made them a three panel wooden d&d dungeon masters screen with magnetic strips on the inside and wood burned monsters on the outside.

I make my dad chocolate covered pretzel rods for every holiday he loves them. I just get a big container of rods for $5 and a few $2 bags of chocolate and then maybe some cheap sprinkles and baggies and these will last me the holidays for the entire year maybe buying a few things of chocolate here and there.

You can buy clear plastic ornaments for cheap and turn them into pretty spell jars with glitter, crystals, dried flowers, cinnamon sticks, dried orange peels, cranberries etc. They can be charged with your intention and they’re pretty 😍

I’m a witch on a fixed income; I try to put some sentiment into it. This year I’m doing a “Banish Winter Blues” gifts. I plan to include:
    Tea and hots chocolate
    Chocolate coins
Candied ginger and or orange peel
Banishing spray (I bought a pack of mini glass spray bottles. 50 for about 20 bucks)
    Simmer pot ingredients

With it, I plan to include a write up on suggestions on how to enjoy these things. Might try to make a brochure type thing to go along. Suggest using hot milk for the chocolate, ways to enjoy the simmer pot; and I also threw in my Wassail recipe. I’ll do a bit of customization. IE: I’ll throw in some moon water spray for my niece who is also taken an interest in wicca, I’ll skip the tea for my brothers, etc.

Honestly, save yourself some cash and skip the mug unless you have something really personal in mind. This is because so many people have so many mugs hanging out. I tend to just put everything for a mug gift (The goodies, the hot chocolate mix, the marshmallows) in a wee gift bag.
Oh another tip: rather then shell out for individual hot chocolate packs, get some wee zip lock bags from the dollar store (the ones you find in the craft area) fill with hot chocolate powder from a bulk can, and make a pretty label with card stock. You can then staple the label on. boom; custom hot chocolate packs. I also use these wee bags for the marshmallows and other goodies.

I’m making an assortment of Jams for my family! All I need to buy is the fruit and small jars, which will hopefully come out to just around $20 for gifts for everyone

Once I found this Pinterest that had Ferraro Roches, in wrappers hot glue onto a wine bottle so I looked like a pineapple. And then green construction paper on top to finish the effect. So it was like a wine and chocolates situation, did if for my bestie’s mom, who I’m very close with! She loved it!

Could also do fun little bracelets with crystals, or holiday ornaments with cute little found objects!

Also we were poor growing up and my mom whose a great cook, would always gift food. She’d make like mini quiches or mini lasagna, and put it in a gift bag! Everyone expected it year after year but always looked forward to it!

Remember, it really is the thought that counts!

Nothing specific, but if you need cheap supplies check out a dollar store. I know Dollar Tree does some online business, but idk if they actually deliver (seems like they should with covid). I’m only really familiar with Dollar Tree, and they have some limited craft supplies like small glass bottles, glitter, craft glue, wooden decorations, etc. But I’d be surprised if all dollar stores didn’t at least have some other stuff like glasses, mugs, plates, some party supplies, gloves, etc. This time of year they should also have cardboard boxes that are Christmas decorated, along with other gift packaging stuff (the wrapping paper is usually less than what you’d get elsewhere, but just as fancy)

Also having a rough year plus with certain family dynamics I am trying to spend less this year. My idea was to just do lots of cookies (pretty inexpensive for me from scratch as I have a lot of basic ingredients and only need chips, morsels, etc) also bag mixes at the local dollar store can be pretty cheap as low as 50 cents. I was also thinking of throwing in an ornament. Another idea I had was just doing the little baking kits I’ve seen on Pinterest where you just give them the mix, with a seasonal pot holder and whisk. And all these are about 5 dollars at dollar tree. I would definetly also check thrift stores and dollar stores since your crafty I’m sure you can pull together something fantastic.
