Beginners witches, baby witches, magickal newcomers, hello! I know that you all are often told to do your own research and while I agree that is IMPORTANT, it may not always be clear what to research, where to start, or how to discern good info from the bad. What are some things that the more experienced witches can help you with ?

I’ll do my best to answer any questions and provide yourselves. If any one else has been around the block for a bit and knows the answer too, please chime in also.

Remember that there is often more than one way to achieve a goal.

For instance, the other day someone asked about aphantasia. Ways to possibly help someone with that condition.

Most of the suggestions included guided meditation, some chemical involvement ranging from potions/spell work to magic mushrooms, and my own suggestion was focusing healing energy to the affected areas of the brain which, thanks to google, were easily identified.

Since they did not identify their practice, nor their skills, we don’t know what might work for the person asking the question.

In other words, all those answers were correct. Potentially.

There’s nothing wrong with brainstorming, spitballing ideas.

Too many seem to believe that there is only one right answer.

Honestly for me, I am not the newest but still learning and discovering the things that I enjoy and want to be apart of my craft. One thing I’ve wanted to get into is deity work, but am honestly slightly afraid to since I am still unsure on the process of doing/using offerings, like what to offer, how long it should be used as an offering and then after the fact how to dispose of said offering so as to not upset the deity. Obviously certain items wouldn’t need to be disposed of but if you did a food offering clearly it would not last forever.

Hi. Magickal newcomer here looking for guidance on performing a banishment spell on a coworker. This coworker has been giving me issues and just making things at work generally unpleasant to the point that I am looking for work elsewhere. I’ve been at this company for 10+ years, so I don’t WANT to have to leave because of someone else, but have already started putting in applications just in case.

He’s already kind of disrupted things in the workplace with getting my manager fired amongst other things, so morale is at an all time low. I was looking into doing a “burn it away” banishing, and am wondering if it would be sufficient enough, or even the correct method?

I plan on going into it with the intent of wishing no harm or ill will on my coworker, and in fact, wish him nothing but peace, prosperity, and success. I just want him to achieve all of that far, far away from me.

Collect information, sources, and references. Keep it fairly simple for a starting point, not too overwhelming. Make it useful though. If you don’t know how to explain it to a newbie, check your ego and refer them to someone who already has that content available. Make wise use of media!

Protection spells are the most important thing you can perform. You don’t need fancy equipment/crystals, but you should have an idea of how your protection should work.

I use offensive and defensive methods.
Defensive: I ask the ancient earth to help me plant a dense energy forest around my space, me and my spiritual herd can navigate it with ease, but any spirit that is not welcome or wants to cause harm will get lost and redirected out of my territory. If I’m looking for a different flavor of element, I can ask the water to form a dense fog/bog that me and my spirits can navigate easy, but anything unwelcome will get lost.

Offensive: if the defensive methods don’t work/aren’t strong enough, then I turn to the stronger methods. Once I get a positive ID on the unwelcome spirit, I write the name on a note card, use some spiky/itchy plants (green briar and poison ivy), wood ash, and some other items, to make this a proximity spell. The closer the target spirit gets, the more the spell activates. So far, it has worked.

Word of warning: defense is the best offense. It may sound tempting to make a straight up attack using the offense method, but it is an absolute last resort. It takes so much energy, can cause so much pain, and can back fire if done improperly. Use defensive method first, cleanse, and find your own way to feel safe.

Another thing for newer witches to know, which I wish I knew when starting the practice: be prepared to feel tired after doing spirit work. It takes energy to communicate across the barrier, so be sure to keep hydrated, and keep up on self care.

Honestly, I would love some book recommendations! I am very new at this, although in life I am not a young person!

I am currently reading Jason Miller’s Sorcerer Secret and maybe it’s my upbringing, but his attitude toward working with demons make me feel uncomfortable. Anything I do has to be very safe, especially for the sake of my children.

Any recommendations book-wise? I also wouldn’t mind connecting with local witches, but where do you even start to find them?
