Over the past year, as I got into astrology, learning about the signs and placements in the signs, one of the things still seems strange is the stereotypes, though to be fair, stereotypes have a bad habit of being inaccurate. With zodiac sign stereotypes, I don’t know too many people who actually meet the stereotypes for their sign, and quite a few of those who don’t are the opposite. For example, with the Tauruses I know, at least 2 are quite athletic, and one of them has a stellium in Taurus, which includes 2 of her big 3 placements (Sun and Moon). For the Leos, I only know a few people who meet the attention-seeking stereotype, at least on social media, though I’m not sure if attention-seeking is the stereotype. And I only know of 1 Aquarius who is into weird stuff. What else would someone need in their chart to fulfill their stereotypes? Or is it that I just don’t know any of them well enough?

If anyone here has previously talked about this, please link those posts. Also, did I use the right flair?

I think it’s fairly common for people to not match their sun sign. That’s why the whole natal chart counts for so much. I know that I may not seem like the typical Pisces to many people although I have 5 inner placements in Pisces (sun, rising, Mercury, Venus and Saturn) I also have those placements in the first house of Aries plus my Lilith is in Aries so I find I’ve always resonated with a lot of Aries descriptions although it doesn’t actually show up in my planetary placements at all. House placements are important, as are decans and outer placements like Lilith, the nodes and chiron.

Another good example, I heard someone mention the other day was about the decans and how scorpio, for example, will tend to be more intense and mysterious when born on the first scorpio decan, more imaginative and reserved or artistic when born on the second Pisces decan and more emotional and compassionate when born on the third cancer decan. I often think of it as each sign having 3 mini signs each. I’m a first decan Pisces so I feel like that adds another Pisces level to my chart if that makes sense 😆

Something to consider is, what is the source for what one has learned about “sun sign stereotypes”? It’s probably not great if it’s just giving flat stereotype descriptions. Whatever the source is, how deep and involved is it?

There is a difference between those sun sign stereotypes sources and learning about what the sign actually means in terms of how it operates, what it wants to do, its ruling planet, what it cares about, how it goes about doing what it cares about. We have to look at the element too, and whether it’s a cardinal, fixed, or mutable sign – those all are important indicators that come into play.

I highly recommend these two videos (podcast format also) for getting a better understanding of the signs:

[Ep. 175 Zodiac Sign Meanings, Part 1, Aries-Virgo](http://theastrologypodcast.com/2018/10/15/the-signs-of-the-zodiac-qualities-and-meanings-part-1/)

[Ep. 180 Zodiac Sign Meanings, Part 2, Libra-Pisces](http://theastrologypodcast.com/2018/11/13/the-signs-of-the-zodiac-qualities-and-meanings-part-2/)

Podcast timestamps are on the main links. Click through to Youtube and you’ll find the timestamps for the vids. There are two other vids/podcasts in this series, covering the houses. Just go to the episodes page for #231 and #233.

I’ll just mention one example of an issue: the meaning of Uranus got wrongly conflated with the meanings of Aquarius. So much so that people really don’t understand Aquarius very well. Or, it’s just too reduced to “Uranus”. I too, have known a number of Aquarians, and they fit far more the descriptions in the vid above than in the typical “uranus-type” stereotype. I think those that seem to “fit the stereotype” may be more likely to have a more prominent uranus adding itself into the mix, but people just attribute those qualities to aquarius. We had 7 years of births where uranus was actually in aquarius (from 95/96 to 2003 — those about age 18 to 26 now, prime players in the astrology craze right now). So, for those aquarians, it is all the more easy to conflate uranus with aquarius. Especially those 18 to 26 year olds—I think they have just grabbed on to the conflation and are convinced, if they fit that stereotype, that it’s because they are aqua. (All depends how extreme a stereotype we’re talking about here of course. It’s never that there can’t be some bits that fit.)

Edit: and of course I didn’t touch on all the endless ways any planet in a sign is altered by its condition and aspects. But that would have been another whole page hehe.

No one is going to be a stereotype because no one is all one sign, we are our whole chart. I have a stellium in Sagittarius..but I’m a Taurus rising..and a Leo Moon…and I have Scorpio, Capricorn and Aries placements as well. I’m all those things and the way they play out is informed by the houses they are in and the aspects, etc. So it is a lot more complicated than just what my big 3 are, you know?

I do have two good examples of zodiac stereotypes within family & friends
My sister is a Cap sun Aqua moon Leo rising Cap Mercury Sag Venus and Libra Mars. She is very much the Cap sun Aqua moon and libra Mars stereotypes to a T. Especially a Capricorn sun, she’s a cpa the most hard working stubborn and quick to anger person I know. She’s also very intuitive when she listens to you complain (only if she’s not complaining first)

Next is my BFF she is a quadruple Virgo with a Pisces Mars. Now I haven’t met a girl who fit the Virgo mold until her. She’s very smart, honest, gets stressed out very easily when things don’t go her way, has the most gorgeous hair, has stomach problems, and is very kind. I have seen her donate all her time and energy into her profession and friendships. She’s such a good person with very good energy

I have yet to meet a dark edgelord Scorpio in my life. Quite the opposite actually. Extroverted, friendly and openly expressive I have been friends with. My dad might actually be the most Scorpio like in terms of stereotype, but even he falls short in several areas.

When I learned of the Natal chart, it was such a game changer with its vast arrays of depth and comprehension.

I fit the sagittarius stereotype very well, but my birth chart has Jupiter (whuch rules sag) in sag and a stellium in sag, so I have major sag energy in my chart.

The only time ive seen someone match a stereotype is if they have a LOT of that sign. My best friend is an Aries stellium and her energy is just GO,GO,GO!!!! She moves quickly, thinks quickly, and is assertive and definitely a leader. She angers quickly and it burns out just as fast as it appeared. Then the energy burns out quickly and she has to rest. I’ve also met a Taurus stellium who is a SUPER taurus, he moves soooo slow. Like physically. His room is filled with sloth plushies cuz that is his “soul animal.” He takes weeks to respond to texts, naps often, works slowly, loves weed and snacks!

I agree… I look at the zodiac/astrology subreddits and read other people’s “opinions” about zodiac signs and their encounters with each sign and I honestly cannot relate. For example, my childhood best friend is a Sagittarius and she is sooo introverted and she’s also the least optimistic person I know. My really close friend is an Aquarius and I’ve read so much shit about Aquarius being unemotional, inconsiderate, and incapable of having an emotionally deep connection and I was like whaaaa??? Like my Aquarius friend is always the one who initiates emotional conversations with me and she did that when we first became friends. Also shes very comfortable crying in front of me and admitting when she needs comfort/company. PLUS she also has an Aquarius stellium.

Another stereotype I’ve heard is that Pisces are these gentle kind people, and yes I do think they are kind but the Pisces I have met in my life have been aggressive. I had a childhood Pisces friend who just randomly punched someone while we were out walking together (I still love her tho we had so many great adventures ❤️❤️) I have Scorpio relatives and they haven’t punched anyone as far as I’m concerned
