I’ve always had clairsentience when I was younger, but never knew it had a name until recently. Over the last 2 years I’ve dived into spirituality and building a relationship with spirit guides, ancestors and deities. I would notice signs, but usually dismiss them. Recently I did a cord cutting spell and as a result of the cord cutting, I wanted my psychic abilities to grow. I’ve tried to trust in my abilities and have noticed a lot more synchronicities and feel a deeper connection to the spirit world, but I have anxiety and am wondering if I’m going crazy. I dont audibly hear or visually see anything outside of scrying in a meditative state. I keep up with grounding and protections and my therapist hasn’t expressed any concerns, but I also haven’t deep dived into anything with her much. The experiences I have had do not cause me distress, but the anxiety of “what if im just in psychosis?” does stress me out. How do you know what you’re experiencing is real and isn’t a mental illness?

Validation. If others can validate your experiences, you may still think, “This is crazy!” That is sooooo different from, “I must be crazy”.

There’s a Joseph Campbell quote ,”the psychotic drowns in the same waters in which the mystic swims with delight.”

I was on an awesome spiritual journey, healing from CPTSD, unlocking my gifts, and actualizing my dreams, synchronicities, learning to listen to my body and guides, and then came a series of destabilizations that put me in repeated freeze mode when my guides asked me to take certain risks and I ended up having a “psychotic break” (/spiritual crisis/ spirit sending me repeated messages to do something very dangerous I did not want to do) that put me in the hospital. I’m still recovering 1.5 years later and it feels like I’ve been kicked out of Earth School.

All that’s to say: BALANCE. If you’re finding yourself too much in the unseen spaces, ground (sounds like you’re doing). Protect yourself from entities. Discern what guidance is coming from where.

That’s a good q— when is it considered mental illness … like ricottapuffs said, mutually accepted reality.. but can be hard when you’re the only one picking up on something unseen. I would say experiment when you can to corroborate, whenever feels safe, and a little at a time. That, and keep a healthy ego/persona (not the destructive/defensive ego, one that keeps you a functioning person in the world), the research I’ve done is that psychosis happens when the subconscious takes over the personality, when those wires cross… you always want to be the one containing and directing where that energy goes.

I don’t know if it ever goes away but I try to remind myself that even if I am crazy, I’m not hurting anyone so who cares.

I can see spirits sometimes in the physical world and I connect very easily and don’t need to meditate and even then I still wonder all the time if it’s just psychosis and I’m crazy. Sorry you deal with this too but glad to know it’s not just me

What if what you’re experiencing is a god given gift? And there’s nothing wrong with you and you are perfect just the way you are?

One way I teach others how to accept their gifts is to share their intuitive perceptions in a controlled setting (like giving practice readings) and make yourself available for feedback from your blind volunteers.

99.9% of people I work with this way are surprised that their gifts can be validated by the volunteer’s feedback.

Once you learn that your gifts can be validated by others AND can help others, usually by volunteers asking you psychic questions you answer, all that worry fades into the background.

Consider taking a psychic/intuitive reading class where you can do practice readings eventually, and then you’ll know once and for all.

When something happens over and over again and you end up being correct and proven right, then you learn to trust your abilities.

Also as far as giving readings, people will confirm your details, and that is powerful and encouraging.
