Hello! I recently received my first deck and I’ve been keeping it in an old scarf I knit, along with the interpretation help book, my tarot journal, and a candle i light when I read. But I love crafting things and so i’ve been contemplating making it it’s own case, with pockets and stuff for all the “extras.” So I’m looking for inspiration! How do y’all store your decks, especially those of you who made your own storage?

My deck was in it’s original packaging for months. I felt like when I would find a proper box or storage place, I would feel it and know. I would look actively but I didn’t feel a connection with anything. Last month, my husband and I were at a vintage shop and he came up to me, looking excited. He said “I found a box I think you might like for your cards.” It was a beautiful, old glass box with dried out flowers pressed into the glass, kind of like when you frame them. I fell in love with it, more so because my husband saw it and thought about me, and my deck.

My decks are all in their original boxes. Three of them are the size of the deck, books match. One has an enormous book that goes with it, so the deck is small compared to that. I’d love to find a new box for that one. The deck just doesn’t seem secure in there.

For the most part, I keep mine in their boxes if possible. For ones I use regularly or have in rotation, I get a bag. If the deck came in a cheap cardboard box, I will break down the box, keep the book that came with it on the shelf, and put the deck in a nice bag. If it came in a nicer box, I tend to keep it in the box when not in use. In time, I would like to teach myself to make some more bags for decks. But for now, I am fairly easy going on the storage question.

I sewed a drawstring bag to fit the original packaging in. In between the lining and the outside, I drew and activated 2 protective sigils. The ends of the drawstring I tied with a key as I plan to work with Hecate in the near future.

I keep them in the tuck boxes or packaging they came in. A couple of my favorite historical decks are wrapped in paper envelopes that are recreations of the originals they would have been sold with. I’d like to create paper envelopes for more of my decks but its a pretty involved process. The decks that are currently wrapped that way were sold that way.

The ones I rarely use are in their original boxes, the one I use all the time are in a copper jar on my nightstand (not sure how they ended up in there but it works for me lol)

I crocheted a bag for mine. You could do a roll, since you have extra stuff too.

I have multiple decks in different types of storage. Ones that came in nice boxes (not tuck boxes or overly bulky boxes) stay in their original boxes. Otherwise they get rehomed to bags, or in the case of my favorite deck, a handmade wooden tarot deck box that I bought on etsy.

I hand stitched a little drawstring back from some old patterned pillow covers I was going to donate. I just felt this urge to make something for my cards, and the process was long but a great way to practice mindfulness and just focus on the stitches ????

I have a Special wooden box for my most precious craft items or most used tools. It goes there for me.
