My best friend has mediumship skills and intuition. She says I have intuition to, but I doubt myself. I lost my son 15 months ago and he’s reaching out to everyone that has a gift to get messages to me. She said I can’t hear him because I don’t know how. She suggest meditation but I can’t ever quiet my mind. (Adhd if it matters) I honestly haven’t really tried because I’m not sure how.
    Any suggestions?

Firstly, I’m so sorry for your loss. Meditation is such a positive tool, and if you adopt it as a regular practice, you will definitely see a pay-off over time. Having ADHD doesn’t matter, and anyone can do it.

Instead of thinking of meditation as you needing to stop all thoughts, think of it as a chance to take a quiet break from the world and a chance for you to observe your Self.

Start with a short period of time, say 5-10 minutes, and spend that time in a comfortable position, focusing on your breathing and/or observing your thoughts.

If you’re focusing on your breathing, then breathe deeply, and relax your breath down, becoming aware of the in & out of your breath.

If you’re noticing your thoughts, don’t react to them. Instead imagine yourself watching a movie, and “see” your thoughts floating by.

If these techniques aren’t working for you, there are so many more out there, from visualizations to body scans. Do a search on YouTube for guided meditations.

The beauty of meditation is that there really is no “wrong” way to do it. In the beginning it may feel difficult, and you may even fall asleep, that’s ok!
Whatever you do, stick with it! Over time, your mind will start to “quiet” itself and you’ll become much more aware of your surroundings, your thoughts, and your intuition. It really will change your life for the better.

Yes! I am the same way. My mind is like a ping pong ball, always getting distracted. One really powerful thing I do to get into a meditative state is to start with the body first. I have a more in-depth guide on how to do it here: [https://www.wearespiritsurfers.com/when-your-brain-is-too-scattered-to-meditate-do-body-work-instead/](https://www.wearespiritsurfers.com/when-your-brain-is-too-scattered-to-meditate-do-body-work-instead/) , but basically, instead of trying to quiet the mind…to calm the body….the change my energy. I calm the body…which quiets the mind…which changes my energy (to a more zen vibe 😉 Hopefully that makes sense??

Looking in a mirror directly in your eyes for a lil less than a minute focusing and not blinking can really clear one’s head rather fast.

Just focus on your breathing and if your thoughts run through let them and then refocus. It’s a muscle, you need to train it to get better at it.

    I’m sorry for your loss.
Meditation takes practice. It’s ok you’re struggling. You can try a guided meditation. There are a lot of apps and YouTube videos. Listen to them and find what you like.

When your mind wanders, gently dismiss the thought. Let it float away. Focus on your breath and bring yourself back into the mediation.

Mediation can also be as simple as closing your eyes and taking 5 deep breaths. Count 5 seconds in; 5 seconds out.

Mindfulness meditation : notice what is around you. Use all your senses; what do you smell? See? Hear? Taste? Focus on your feet connecting to the ground. Feel yourself as part of earth.

Mediatation takes many forms. There really isn’t a right or a wrong.

I’ve been meditating for about 4 months now and I started with YouTube guided meditations. If you don’t like one, try another. Not every session is perfect. Sometimes my mind wanders, sometimes I fall asleep, but it has helped my stress level by giving myself permission to relax.

The way I clear my mind is I take control of the thoughts, if a thought pops in my head I say “I don’t want to think of it right now” and then as the thoughts keep coming I keep blocking them until my mind is clear…

Something closer to self-hypnosis might work better for you. Sit up comfortably, close your eyes, and mentally tell yourself that you’ll relax after ten slow breaths. Then just keep repeating that till you’re all quiet inside. 🙂
